Sinclair United continued their good form in division one with a thumping 6-0 win against Deddington Town Reserves.

United boss Steve Nash made several changes to the side which beat Bloxham last week. Toby Jones replaced Stuart Ciballi in goal and Karl Woodcock partnered Adam Timms at the centre of defence. Ben Riley returned to the starting line-up on the left side of midfield and Paul Rogers supported Josh Nash up front.

It was a sluggish start by the home side though, who failed to exert themselves in the middle of midfield for the first 15 minutes. This allowed Deddington to have an unusual amount of time on the ball in an attempt to breach the Sinclair defence, but the back four held strong and cleared their lines where necessary.

It wasn’t until midway through the first half though that Luke Butterworth and Ian Timms began to find spaces to drive forward and feed Nash past the defence.

The first chance of the game for Sinclair fell to Riley when a great ball from the right by Jason Pritchard saw the skipper jump too early to narrowly put his header wide. But Riley made no mistake with his next chance. Another great ball from the right, this time from Rogers, saw the midfielder rise highest and confidently head past the keeper to put United in front.

With Butterworth, Timms and Rogers finding more and more space in the middle it would only be a matter of time before the second goal arrived. And it duly came in the 30th minute when a one-two with Nash saw Riley fire past the keeper to double his tally and Sinclair’s lead.

The lead was further extended in the 33rd minute when after good work in the box by Ian Timms, Pritchard found space to fire a shot towards goal and the keeper couldn’t stop the ball trickling over the line.

The game looked over as a contest before half time and Nash got himself on the scoresheet when his pressure on the Deddington defender led to a mistake and he drove into the box before firing a fierce shot into the far corner.

There was still time for Nash to grab his second of the match minutes before half time when good work again from Rogers found the striker free inside the box and he duly converted to put United 5-0 up.

It was a case of maintaining their intensity in the second half for United, and as they started to dictate play once more they enjoyed a great deal of possession and played some of their best football of the season.

The final goal of the game was a well worked move from inside United’s half. Adam Timms raced down the right and after good work with Nash, the striker fed Rogers who was waiting on the edge of the penalty area and he confidently struck the ball into the far corner to put the game out of reach for Deddington.

It was a comfortable win in the end for United, but at times they were guilty of letting some sloppy play creep into their game. That is something the United boss will want his side to eradicate in their next match, when they face division one opponents Croughton in the Lord Jersey Cup.

United: T Jones, W Jones (L Jarvis 45), A Timms, K Woodcock (D Wiles 60), L Whitehead, B Riley, I Timms, L Butterworth, J Pritchard, P Rogers, J Nash
