Sinclair United produced a confident display against Bodicote Sports as they cruised to a 5-1 win.
An own goal barely five minutes into the division one fixture gave the visiting side the perfect start and when Karl Woodcock doubled United's lead they were firmly in control.
Bodicote pulled one back through a goalmouth scramble in the 15th minute but further goals from Josh Nash, Woodcock and Ian Timms late on put the result beyond doubt.
After the great display against Abba Athletic the previous week, manager Steve Nash wanted another good performance and he got it with barely ten seconds on the clock. Following the kick off, full back Luke Whitehead clipped a lofted ball towards Josh Nash and the striker found himself through on goal with only the keeper to beat.
But his shot agonizingly hit the post and bounced clear for the goal kick. That was the sign of things to come for United and then didn't have to wait long to break the deadlock. Following a period of sustained pressure from United, a corner from captain Ben Riley was swung in and diverted into the goal by the Bodicote defender.
United were having the majority of possession in the first half, but there was a couple of times when they opted to try and walk the ball into the goal rather than shoot from distance. They were to soon double their lead though in the fifth minute when good work in the box found Karl Woodcock inside the box and he confidently converted.
But a lapse in concentration saw United concede following a goalmouth scramble. The muddy conditions in the box saw keeper Toby Jones fumble the ball and despite saving the first shot he was unable to stop the Bodicote forward from following in the rebound.
Despite the setback United were still playing the better football on a difficult pitch and started to create chances. They were soon to regain their two-goal advantage though when more good work in the middle saw Luke Butterworth feed Nash through on goal and he duly converted to make it 3-1.
Winger Ben Washington had to come off towards the end of the first half through injury, with Jason Pritchard coming on in replacement. In the second half it was much of the same for United, with their defence not really being tested.
They kept up the pressure on Bodicote and could have been further in front had the crossbar not denied them. Both Riley and Butterworth were unlucky in their efforts when their free kicks cannoned off the bar, with the keeper stranded.
Woodcock was to get his second of the game however when he ran onto a ball into the box and despite seeing his shot saved by the keeper initially, he made no mistake with the rebound and put the ball into the empty net.
There was still time as well for substitute Ian Timms to get on the scoresheet. Good work again by Butterworth found Timms on the edge of the area and he unleased a powerful shot which flew into the top corner.
It was another great performance against a league side United would feel they should be beating. After making small changes to the squad during the off season, United have been making great progress in the league and find themselves comfortably midtable.
Currently on a three-match unbeaten run in the league, United take a break from division one action when they come up against KEA in what should be a difficult homeencounter in the Banbury Charity Cup.
