Our cup run never got started on a sodden Branksome Rec pitch, the game saw us play some very good football. However were punished for lacking the cutting edge up top and conceding every credible chance they had.
The game saw the manager tweak to a 4-4-2 with Foley making his debut in centre midfield, and Dave slotting in behind Batty up top. Army returned to centre back in the absence of big bad John who was in Greece contemplating if he should tell his girlfriend that he prefers cock to the clunge.
The first 10 minutes we dominated possession and had West Howe at our mercy, however we failed to get that important goal. Instead they went and scored first when an uncharacteristic mistake from Shane let their striker in. The goal was followed by another when we failed to clear our lines and bang before you knew it the Howe were 2-0 up.
Meggsy was having an inspired game in right back and Foley a promising league debut, but unfortunately it was little snippets from certain players. We needed everyone to give 110% when things are against you and on Sunday we did not get that.
Half time there was an enforced change, Les had to go off with a broken hand. He consulted three doctors in the Victoria cross, the Pottery and The Hogs Head In Westbourne and they all said he was a brave little boy. Shane and I went with him for morale support.
Bazza the Brick donned the famous yellow strip for the second half. Within a minute we had pulled one back when the Grey fox in midfield pounced on a short pass beat 14 players and drilled into the corner. Comeback on the cards!!! To be fair to the players we did bang on their door quite a bit and were unlucky on a few occasions not get an equaliser..
The turning point came when Goodhew Scott was fouled in the corner and no free kick was awarded, about a minute later the ball was in our net. That seemed to be the killer blow and sucked the wind out of us. The fourth followed shortly after a mix up from Barry and Shane.
Kinger did manage to pull back a second goal back with a sublime free kick, however it was to little to late.
MOM – Meggsy was like a man possessed, was everywhere. For me his best game for us.
