The difference a week can make.
Last season we lost a game in the opening couple of weeks and went on to stay unbeaten for quite some time, I hope this repeats itself again this year.
A scrappy game in which we could have and probably should have won comfortably, especially considering they played with 10 men for a large part of the game.
Even though we attempted the passing game today, it just did not come of, however credit to all the players for continuing to try and play the ball.
We should have been one up after 5 minutes when good determined running from Chrispy saw him reach a header and put me through with the goalkeeper 1 on 1, only to see me pull the ball wide of the post. Bad Miss.
Five minutes later an unfortunate ricochet of Shane dropped right into their strikers path for him to lob an advancing Jock. We proceeded to panic and get slightly frustrated instead of going at them. This resulted in needless free kicks and corners. And from these corners they managed to score directly from not one corner but two, a real kick in the gonads.
A moment of madness from their centre back saw him make a flying save and duly got sent off, Up stepped Ellement to stroke our goal deficit to -2.
Going into half time we had a new slim line goalkeeper who goes by the name of Les, Jock bravely stuck a foot out on their striker and in the process pulled his groin, fingers crossed he is ok for next week.
The second half started well, after winning a free kick I seemed to put enough power into it for the goal keeper to spill straight to Barry who duly slotted home, this was when we should have went on and got the equaliser. However we seemed to back of and they put us under pressure, as we chased the game we all started to play scrappy passes and seemed to rush things in search of that goal. Then the sucker blow of a fourth goal for them killed us of.
We pushed for goals but just seemed to lack any real attacking force.
This defeat really hurt me and I hope it hurt everyone else, because it was a game we should have won. Next week we have a cup game against James James who are currently unbeaten, so look forward to a result from a team of pissed of and hungry players.
Man Of The Match.
Canham and I agreed this week, Army came on for Lilla and straight away did the right things, won key challenges, played simple passes and never panicked.
