Games on successive Saturdays always gives the chance of bouncing back from a defeat and Affinity capitalised on this opportunity against a Mosaic side that couldn't deal with set pieces.
With a number again unavailable Affinity had players in unfamiliar positions and Josh P had his third different strike partner of the season in Ian.
Mosaic had the better of the early exchanges as Affinity took time to settle into the game. A couple of early chances had the defence stretching with Gary B clearing up well. Before Affinity had their first effort on goal Mosaic had hit the bar and Charlie cleared well off the line to keep the scores level.
The referee seemed off the pace with a number of his decisions but a free kick given on the right would lead to the opening goal. The kick was taken quickly with Luke whipping in a cross finding Jamie who timed his run to the far post to perfection to nod in.
A second Affinity goal followed shortly after with a ball from the right headed into the path of Josh P who despite struggling with a hamstring injury passed the ball into the net. Headers from Steve and Ian from corners had also brought saves from the keeper as Mosaic struggled to mark at set pieces.
Further chances were made at both ends as the half came to an end. Jamie's half time team talk encouraged Affinity to compete better for the second ball and keep the pressure up especially at set pieces.
With players getting tired in the late September sunshine Affinity started to use the extra space that was opening up. The midfield quartet of Luke, Gary C, Jamie and Mike started to make gains with some nice passing moves helping to up the possession stats in Affinity's favour.
A third goal was nothing more than Affinity deserved when Gary C met another Luke corner to head home. It had the feeling of effectively ending the game as a contest. Mosaic made some changes to personnel and formation but Affinity held firm with some good defensive work especially from the youth element of the team with Sean and Charlie making telling contributions on the day.
Affinity's fourth goal, a somewhat comical own goal, was the result of continued pressure as was the final goal of the game scored by Ian who won the ball from the Mosaic defence and slotted the ball home along the ground from 30 yards. An injured Josh P nearly added to Mosaic’s misery forcing a fingertip save from their keeper.
5-0 probably flattered Affinity a bit but take nothing away from a performance that Affinity worked hard to achieve and clinically make the most of Mosaic's inability to mark effectively at set pieces.
With good performances all over the pitch the man of the match award could have been handed to one of many from Gary B keeping a good clean sheet with the help of a battling defence, through a cultured midfield to a front two running tirelessly for the cause. Luke takes the award for a master class in crossing the ball with three assists and keeping the pressure on Mosaic from free kicks and corners
