Cup Run Continues
With ARYPT1 about to tie up the league the cup has become a focus for the remainder of Affinity’s season. We knew that Mosaic would be difficult opposition having beaten us pre-season and Binley in the previous round of the cup.
A tense and scrappy start to the game would set the scene for the whole match. The first half was shared with a goal for either side, Mosaic scoring first with a reply by James controlling a cross and finishing cooly into the side of the net. Tempers flared from time to time with yellow cards being handed out to Josh S and Jamie.
Mosaic regained the lead early in the second half and Affinity had to dig in hard to get back in the game. Slowly but surely Affinity gained more possession and turned this into chances. Gurps replaced Josh P, who had worked hard with little reward, and made an immediate impact creating a chance out of nothing having pinched the ball off a defender, linked with Luke whose cross was met by Jamie for a deserved equaliser.
The winner came from a Luke free kick which somehow squeezed past the wall and the goalie’s hands. This was another ground out victory over stubborn opposition who will are likely to be promoted to Div one next season.
Special mention for fine performances to Mike A, Gurps, Jamie, Luke and Steve M who was our man of the match with a typically professional performance.
