Affinity Reach The Top
The top of the league was the prize on offer for an Affinity victory today.
Making the ball do the work would be important on a hot April Saturday. The early exchanges suggested that the game would be an open affair but as soon as Lee opened the scoring Affinity changed up a gear and played some of the best football they had produced all season. Six further Corden goals followed before half time, a hat trick more for Lee, two for Mike and one for Gary.
To a man Affinity produced some superb football, defensively sound, creative in midfield and clinical in front of goal.
The second half was a tighter affair with Myton taking advantage of gaps appearing as Affinity pushed forward in numbers. The game was more open now with both sides making chances. Lee’s pace continued to worry Myton’s defence but he couldn’t add to his tally. A further three goals from Gary, Luke and Jamie would give Affinity their highest ever goal tally and takes their goal tally to 32 in the last four games (only Meredith have scored that many all season).
A clean sheet would have been the icing on the cake for the day but Myton took advantage of the game opening up to score and arguably it was just reward for their second half endeavour.
Very difficult to pick out a single player from today’s performance but Lee’s four goal first half display was not just about clinical finishing but with Mike C alongside they harrowed and chased not giving Myton’s defence a moment’s peace.
Four more team performances of this quality would hopefully be enough to keep Affinity at the summit of the league and bring a reward for a number of years’ commitment.
