Middle of May and the game is in doubt because of a waterlogged pitch – it has to be Coundon Park!
With only Jordan missing from the team who have played most of the season it was important for Affinity to finish the season on a high. 3 points and pride at stake today as 4th position in the league was how we would finish.
This was a hard fought affair with LOWFORS providing plenty of challenge and no lack of effort. But Affinity were the better team in all areas of the pitch and made their superiority count with 4 goals, 2 in each half, with LOWFORS getting a consolation goal from a penalty late in the game.
Gilly was the first to score ghosting in at the back post from a Jamie corner; deserved reward for a fine season. Josh P with the league golden boot within reach made it 2 with a fine finish from the edge of the area.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with Affinity on top and the midfield collectively dampening the threat caused by the ageing ‘Silver Fox’ (like I can talk!). Josh P’s second a fine left footed strike again from the edge of the area from a Nick pass leaving the goalie with no chance. Affinity’s final goal of the season was a Corden goal with Ian and Lee exchanging slick passes and Ian smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Josh P shades the man of the match with his 2 goal haul that would be enough to make him the league’s top goal scorer; the fourth year running that an Affinity player has won this coveted award. This suggests to me that as a team we continue to provide goal scoring opportunities a plenty for our prolific strikers.
A good season but one that leaves me feeling a little disappointed that we didn’t quite reach our full potential. The odd goal here and there could have turned draws into wins and who knows what would have happened? That why we love football. There’s always next season
