Reds Fly High Against the Magpies!

An excellent team performance today  at Monkton Stadium saw the Viper Reds maintain their recent run of good form.  The Felling Magpies  were the opponents in a match that saw both teams play well. In the end the Reds passing and movement  proved to be too strong for the Magpies but not before some excellent goals from both sides kept the crowd entertained throughout.

Slick passing and movement, clinical finishing and mean defending together with a fine goalkeeping performance  as the Reds continued  their winning streak. Playing with commitment, skill and style, week on week the hard work shown by every single player in the squad both during matches and in training has seen the team just get better and better.

The kick-off saw goalkeeper Alex looking to maintain his excellent from with  defensive rock Jordan and the steadfast Lewis Ireland in defence. In the middle of the park, midfield dynamo Jack started on the right with Captain Marvel in the middle and wing-wizard Adam Wardle on the left.  Goal poacher Lewis Keenan  led the attack with super-subs Harry, Adam Elstob and Taylor itching to get in on the action.

Straight from the kick-off the Reds looked to attack and early shots from Robert and then Adam Wardle looked promising. It didn’t take long for the good play to be rewarded.

Now, have you heard the Viper Reds version of an old rhyme about the magpies?

One for sorrow: a good looking shot from Robert hit the  Magpie’s defender and ballooned into the penalty area. The ball looped through the area eventually falling to Jack who didn’t need to be asked twice as he coolly put the Reds into an early lead. A well taken goal: 1-0.

Lewis Ireland and the Jordan made sure that the Magpies didn’t get any easy chances to score with some great clearing tackles and it was the Reds who nearly scored next when a firmly crossed corner just escaped the Reds who were lurking dangerously in the penalty area.

Two for joy: the Vipers extended their lead when a good tackle in the midfield from Robert and a pass into the area set up Lewis Keenan. Lewis struck a firm shot that was too strong for the Magpies’ keeper and the ball nestled in the back of the net. Nice work, Lewis! 2-0.

Three for a girl. There was nothing girly about the third goal as Jack robbed the Felling midfielder and ran directly into the right hand side of the area. A clever turn to beat the defender set up a golden chance. While the rocket into the far left hand side looked most likely, a clever softer flick to the right with the outside of his boot deceived the Magpies. Another quality finish, Jack: 3-0.

Four for a boy.  A short corner found Robert on the left hand corner of the box.  With time to set himself, Robert lashed in a powerful shot that was accurately placed inside the left-hand post. What a strike! 4-0.

It was time for the Magpies to get on the scoresheet when a rare attack saw the Magpie’s forward run from the half-way line into the area and place a good shot that left the keeper with no chance. 4-1.

Five for silver: Adam Wardle then took a throw-in to Robert on the left of midfield. The ball was passed into the area where up popped Lewis Keenan to score his second of the match. Excellently worked goal to give the Reds a lead at half-time: 5-1.

All three super-subs came on at half-time with Taylor going into defence, Adam Elstob on the right and Harry up front. It didn’t take long for subs to make an impact when the ball fell to Adam Elstob midway inside the Magpies’ half.

A great run from Adam and as quick as a flash he was in the box to hit a very well struck shot that smashed into the right-hand post. So close, and so unlucky! Has the post stopped shaking yet?

The Magpies were then awarded a surprising free-kick on the edge of the area. A rising shot was well struck and the ball lifted into the net leaving the keeper little chance. 5-2

Six for gold: Good work from Harry next in midfield who slid the ball to Jack on the left who burst into the box and claim another well taken goal. Great teamwork!  6-2.

Seven for a secret never to be told. A further goal when Harry intercepted the goal kick to run into the area and shoot. The keeper saves well, but guess who’s on hand to turn the ball in? Yes, it’s the goal machine Jack! 7-2.

Eight's a wish. Next it’s Harry’s turn to get on the scoresheet as good work from the defence allows the Reds to break from midfield and a shot from outside the area finds the back of the onion bag. Liking the windmill celebration Harry! 8-2.

Nine's a kiss. Robert then gets the ball from the restart and a good shot from well outside the area once again proves too hot to handle for the keeper. Robert’s got his shooting boots on today! 9-2

Lewises  Ireland and Keenan together with Adam Wardle are then re-introduced to show just how important every player is to the Viper Reds squad.

Unluckily for the Reds, a scrambled goal-kick falls to the Magpies player who scores a good goal. 9-3.

Ten is a bird you must not miss.  The Reds then scored again with arguably the move of the match, Having previously threatened down the right wing, this time the mercurial Harry Edwardson received the ball on the half-way line, raced down the right wing  skipped past two players and put in a great cross to find the excellent Adam Wardle. A brilliant run from Adam Wardle who was on hand  to volley the ball over the line. Fantastic play Viper Reds! 10-3.

Well done the Reds. Another great performance with every player contributing.  Great work from the keeper, defence, midfield and attack.

Keep up the good work Lads!

Final Score: 10-3
