The League Match

Round Two saw the excellent Adam Wardle on the left, with Jack on the right. Robert and Harry in the middle. Jordan and Lewis Ireland started in defence and Alex in goal.

A couple of dangerous Cubs attacks were well defended by Lewis Ireland. Each attack was prevented with excellently timed tackles showing great anticipation and then really good clearances to set up the Reds for another attack. Tremendous work, Lewis!

And when Lewis wasn’t on hand either  the Rock, Jordan or then Alex were ever alert to keep the Cubs at bay.

A great run from Harry, gathering the ball inside his own half before setting off down the right wing. Beating three  defenders Harry ghosted into the edge of the penalty area. A good cross to the far post,  where Adam Wardle was on hand to provide the finishing touch. Great work Harry and a well time run and finish Adam! 1-0.

More great work from Adam Wardle as he got possession of the ball and passed to Harry whose dangerous cross into the box could only be turned into the goal by the unlucky Cubs’ defender,2-0.

The Reds were dominating play now with shots from Jack and Robert going close and good tackling in the defence. Consett  then had a great attack that resulted in a shot that looked like it was heading into the top right hand corner. That is until Alex made a flying save, somehow managing to get to the ball to push it around the post and out of harm’s way. Great work Alex, just one question: where’s the Superman cape?

The Reds were looking to extend their lead but half-time saw the score 2-0.

Lewis Keenan, Taylor and Adam Elstob came on for the start of the second half and the Reds nearly score straight from the kick-off but Jack’s well struck shot was saved well. Adam Elstob was also unlucky when his good shot was also saved well by the keeper.

Bursting down the left, Jack then cut back inside before feeding the ball into Lewis Keenan who once again had his shooting boots on for a cool finish, 3-0.

Cubs then had a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area. An excellently struck shot evaded the Vipers’ defence and left the keeper absolutely no chance, 3-1.

Jack then turned provider to Harry who hit a well struck shot that whistled inches past the post. So, close!

Robert and Lewis Ireland then came on and the chances continued with Robert, Lewis, Jack and Adam Elstob all coming close. In defence a crunching tackle from Lewis Ireland, ouch!

Jack then  passed to dangerman Lewis Keenan who still had plenty to do before beating his man and tucking the ball away, 4-1.

Well done Lads. Another good result from another great team performance.

Final Score: 4-1

Gary’s Man of the Match: Jack Taylor

John’s Man of the Match: Harry Edwardson
