Grey Horse Over 40’s played the 2nd division cup semi final away at Wearmouth Southwick Carpets and eventually came out winners after extra time and penalties were needed. A strong squad was available against the mid table opposition. Horse took time to settle into the game with the home team showing determination and full of effort. Wearmouth opened the scoring just before half time with a break from the half way line that was clearly offside to go one up. Horse began to create more efforts on goal in the second half looking to get back into the game. Mid way through the half a Neil Bannister corner was flicked on for Jeff Dixon to head home from 5 yards out at the back post. Both teams had good chances to score more goals but the full time score ended one all. Extra time was played with both teams looking for the goal to win the game but no more were scored. Penalties were taken and with the home team blazing two wide and keeper Stuart Timmiss saving one Horse went through 2 – 3.
