After last weeks one all draw Grey Horse over 40's travelled to Durham City Strollers and the outcome was exactly the same as the previous game. Having to shuffle players about due to injury and unavailability Horse found it difficult to get their fluid passing going on a small, clarty, paddy field like pitch. With the players coming to terms with the soft footing in the centre of the pitch Horse began to use the flanks to good effect with the midfield and attacking wing backs providing crosses from wide to put the home team under pressure. Midway through the half Horse gave away possession with a missed place pass in the mud which led to a Durham player having time to shoot over the stranded keeper Stuart Timmiss from twenty yards out to put the home team one nil up. Horse began to create more chances and shots were blasted against both posts, wide and over from good positions around the area, But the half time score remained 1 - 0. Continuing their attacking play Horse had many chances in the second half to earn a deserved equaliser which did come from a quickly taken corner by John Myers to David Bulleyment who passed to Neil Bannister to hit a volley into the net from the corner of the box. Horse were looking to take all three points from the game and penalties were not awarded by an ageing referee after Jeff Dixon was pushed off the ball and Myers blatantly foul tackled inside the area. Keeper Timmiss was needed to be at his best to block three attempts from the breakaway home attackers from scoring late in the half. Bannister then had a shot cleared off the line and Darren Foster shot inches wide of the upright with minutes remaining to leave the score line at one goal each. A game much like of late, plenty of possession and goal chances created but not having that little bit of fortune in front of goal to take the much needed three points.
