With Gav and Mac away on Mac’s Stag Do, injuries and work commitments meant that a number of new players were introduced into the Potten fold for the big game against unbeaten Sarratt. And always one to make a first impression – Duncan got his new teammates cheering with a goal in the first minute! Potten center played long by Duncan to Mikey, who crossed it back to Duncan for the finish.
What then commenced was a quality display of the beautiful game. Great passing football from both teams, end to end play, missed chances from Potten, Sarratt got one back, 1-1 at half time.
The standard continued from the re-start. Sarratt edged ahead 2-1, but heads didn’t go down, fresh legs were brought on and Potten began to really dominate. But it took two well-taken finishes from Dale to secure the win. Passes from Duncan and Mikey on the edge of the box met Dale’s run in behind the defense, Dale coolly converted both from a tight angle, slotting home at the back stick.
A decent footballing side, Sarratt will be challenging at the top this season. It took outstanding performances from a number of players in the 27°C heat (it felt hotter!), but in the end we out-played them and showed what we can do as a team.
You’ve set the standard now lads – Keep up the good work!
Keep it Rotten! - Ben
** Quick note - So proud of you fellas for the OUTSTANDING performance and win. Was a great present for Mac on his stag. ***
