Home league match played on 07 December 2013.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

Persisting with three at the back, we started very solidly this weekend. I asked for everybody to take responsibility for the connection and communication between the player nearest to you. Influencing the game through communication is as important as the running, tracking, tackling and passing. Whilst we were never going to be stretched by this team like we were the previous week, the calibre of opponent simply not the same, our first half output was just as solid. Indeed by the time we took the lead through Diego’s opening strike, I was only worried that we might not score. The remainder of the first half was played at a canter until late on, when Mark made the first of a couple of smart stops to protect our lead. We had squandered a few chances, and you always get that “hope we don’t regret it” feeling when you are only a goal to the good.  In the second period, we hit our straps, and got the all important second courtesy of the Machine. I had it in my mind that as soon as we got the second, I was going to switch back to a 4-4-2. I didn’t want to dilly dally, and went for it Instantly. Its tough on Dave and Simmo, but with the shape change, I went for Jonny and Greg to protect our lot. I think in all honesty it wouldn’t have mattered, as Diego wrapped out up for us with twenty to go. It’s very handy for us to experiment with the 3 at the back, as it gives us a platform and shape to have a go at teams should we find ourselves in the position of chasing a game. I am pleased with the discipline and that the defensive shape holds up with our wingers and inside midfielders tracking and communicating well.  Man of the Match this week easily goes to Mark Mannell, This is our FIRST clean sheet of the season, and indeed the first clean sheet we have kept since the Dave cup last year. I really want us to build on this and see just how many clean sheets we can get from here on in. Mark will be important to this, and his communication, handling and shot stopping on the day was his best of the season so far. Lets make sure that this continues, especially us defenders and keep the chat going throughout the game. Well done Mark, well deserved.  One small moan from the weekend: WATER-BOTTLE-GATE was a little unnecessary. We don’t need to moan at each other, play nice and don’t call each other names, or else I will confiscate the footballs and you’ll all be sent home with no food at the plough!! Seriously, I know when adrenaline is high and your communicating a point, it can come over a bit strongly. We are mates after all, so speak as you wish to be spoken to chaps xxxx Keep it Rotten!
