The penultimate game of the season, and the Potton M.I.A list reads: Dan Rose, Jonny Ruffett, Dave Mehuish, Dave Boswell, Dan Simpson, Mark McDonnell, Gary Carmalt, Paddy Ashton, Mark Mannell, David French. You'd think that we might have a problem - not a bar of it. To the clubs great credit I was still able to field a team and have two subs. Had I signed on Steve Hewitt, we'd have had three! Paul Carrington came in to fill the vacant space between the sticks, and immediately stamped his authority coming out to clear a couple of early Hunton forays, the best of which being a punch that span up to be claimed at the second attempt. If you'd seen it you'd have thought he meant it! To be fair we had to defend for the early part of the half while we adjusted to the personnel on the pitch, but we closed everything down, and won every header. The tide turned, and a Gav free kick sprayed cross field saw Kieran initially miss-control, but battle the resultant 50/50 before lashing home from 25 yards. 1-0. The second and Diego's first from a Gav corner secured the half time lead 2-0. After the break Nolan & Greg took a well earned rest , Gilly & Gav assuming the rearguard with the Don II and Dunc providing fresh legs. For five minutes Hunton threatened while we shaped up, but thereafter it was utter domination. The Machine will not be sending their keeper a Christmas card, as he got a toe, arse or elbow on anything he shot at him. Undaunted, he turned into the provider machine, setting up goals for Dunc (impressing in his second game this season) and his 'old bill' partner in crime-prevention. 4-0. The gloss was applied from Robbie thundering home from 2 yards out (real venom!), but not before the Potten End Sniper had made his latest appearance at the club. Alkie had collected a spillage and set of rampaging forward before attempting a pirouette turn …. err…… fail!!! A over T as he stood on the ball - cue giggles all round. 5-0 and we are above the Auld Enemy on goal diff' with our last game to play. Lets finnish the season unbeaten and have that to take forward into the new campaign. Keep it Rotten.
