I spent a long time during the week speaking to many of the Potten End players old and new. It’s been a tough season for us this year, and chiefly of our own making. We were good enough to win this division, and certainly to win back our cup trophy. But facts are facts - we haven’t been good enough. Attitude, Complacency, Hubris and good old fashioned Bitching have replaced our football and “PottenEndedness™ ©.”
For the few games we have remaining this year, following into next, Nolan & I will select and run the side. Depending on the outcome of roll on subs in the coming season, we will have a smaller playing squad (roll on give us more flexibility). I don’t want to see people turning up and sitting on the bench any more than those that have had to this season. We will also be looking at consistency in appearances. If you can’t commit to 85% of the seasons fixtures, then be appreciative of the fact that at best you will get sub game time. I quite understand if this isn’t possible/to your liking, and you are of course free to seek football elsewhere. 5 times this season we have had 12 or less players for a game (oddly our better performances?). On 10 or so occasions we have had over 15 (the maximum I can get on in a match).
It is with great joy that I report a victory over Langlebury CC. They are our derby game, and the one I always look to win. We have done the double over them again this season, and this to me is the best thing to come out of the 2014/15 campaign!
We simply battered them from 1-11. Its a shame we didn’t give the returning PC a clean sheet to add to his composed performance. Ben returned in an unfamiliar left wing position, and netted and assisted twice! Kieran continued his run of goals, Robbie popped up with one and the Machine delivered a hatrick/assist combo. Jonny & D chipped in with assists to make it an all round Cricket score for the Cricket club. Perhaps the should stick to …….
I am genuinely pleased with the effort and play on the pitch this week. Carry this forward into the remaining three games, and we could use this as a platform to take into next season. We have revenge to serve Gadebridge and Oxhey and atone for previous losses. Pride and places are still available goals!
Keep it Rotten.
