Phoenix Old Boys FC0 – 2 Maidenhead Crown FC/ League Trophy Round 3 ( Sunday Morning )
Last week was our best result to date, when we knocked out top of the table out of the cup.
It was important to follow on such a good performance last week when we travelled to PHOENIX OLD BOYS FC which are one division above us.
I couldn’t have asked for anymore, it was simply the perfect performance.
The opening 15 mnts were equal in terms of possession and chances, but then the turning point in the match, a red card for a push at one of our players.
Unfortunately we couldn’t take advantage of the extra man, even though we had more of the ball and we wasted 2 very good chances.
Our keeper not having a notable save to make.
Halftime Score 0 – 0
We stepped it up a gear in the second half and had a few half chances until around the 60th minute.
We were awarded a free kick on the right hand side of the area, KENNY EATON floated a superb ball in the area only for the keeper to palm the ball in the air, then captain WARREN EAMES headed home from close range, this put us 1-0 up.
The opposition now knew they had to push men forward, which meant there was now lots of space in the middle and we could counter attack at will.
On the 75th mnts we went 2-0 up. A great move by the lads. KENNY EATON ran down the wing, put in a great cross to the back post which was put back in the box and finished well by man of the match ALAN BURTON.
We knew the game was now won, we had a few more chances which we could not finish but the key was to now keep the clean sheet intact.
A superb performance was topped off with a clean sheet, last ditch tackles and headers meant that the keeper had 90 mnts without a save to make.
By far the best performance and result in a long time.
“ I am proud of every single one of them players, it was great to watch “
We are back at Farnham Park this week when we have an important league game against MANOR PARK FC. It important to keep up this good run we are on and finish the calendar year with 3 points.
