Maidenhead Crown FC 6 – 2 John 86 F.C. / Sunday Morning Thames Valley Football League Division 3
After our huge win last week it was back to league action against a very good JOHN 86 F.C. side that had only lost one game in the league.
It was important to win in order to keep up the race for the title and we did just that.
With the same starting 11 as the week before, we made a terrific start, with just 4 SECONDS on the clock we took the lead.
Immediately from kick off, the ball was rolled to DAVID BUTLER who hit a superb pass into the path of MATTHEW HILLIER who scored to put us 1-0 up. This must be the fastest goal ever scored in the Thames Valley Sunday Football League.
Not long after, a great ball from ALAN BURTON was finished well by KENNY EATON to put us 2-0 up. He beat the keeper at his near post with a well taken shot.
After around 20 mnts on the clock, we scored again. This time STEVEN EATON set up captain JAMES MURDOCH who calmly took it round the keeper and finished into an empty net. The score now 3-0.
I was simply an amazing start which blew the opposition away, in a nutshell, we destroyed them in the early stages.
Sadly, we eased off a little and allowed them to score a very soft goal.
We then picked up the pace again and scored 2 more goals before halftime.
Forward STEVEN EATON then got his second assist of the match when he set up MATTHEW HILLIER for his 2nd goal of the match.
With around 5 mnts to go before the break, JAMES MURDOCH set up ALAN BURTON to strike an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. The score now 5-1.
HALFTIME SCORE 5-1
The message at half time was to play the same and keep doing what we did in the first 45 mnts, and if didn’t concede then it would be a good three points.
A reasonably slow start allowed the opposition to score another sloppy goal. The score now 5-2.
We soon picked up our rhythm again, and from a corner, KENNY EATON knocked the ball down to centre back PAUL NEWPORT to score with a curling shot into the bottom corner. The score now 6-2.
That was the end of the scoring but we squandered so many chances we could have got ourselves into double figures.
But in truth none of that mattered, we brushed aside one of the top 3 sides in the league and now overtake today’s opposition and climb into 3rd in the table.
An amazing performance led by man of the match DAVID BUTLER. In truth there could have been 8 man of the match awards handed out, that how good the lads played. This was the 6th straight win in all competitions and our great run continues.
We are back to cup action this Sunday when we travel to Farnham Park to take on PREMIER DIVISON side STOKE POGES DONS, this will prove to be a much harder test but one I know we can pass.
On the form we are on, this may be a classic game for the neutral.
