The day where Liverpool fans were all waiting for. Champions League final day. Incepcion FC also unveil their brand new blue kit, with support of the sponsors - Bee, Sherman and Henry. Appreciation to them. It was supposed to be a great Saturday of football.
Things didn't turn out well for the author though. Firstly, while he tried to get home, the notorious North South MRT line broke down and he got STUCK in the train for 30 minutes. After managing to get out of the broken down train, he got STUCK in the rain and couldn't get home. Meanwhile, weather reports live from the football pitch indicated that the skies were clearing up and good for Incepcion to play football. I guess the weather report didn't influence the team decision to arrive early. They rather look at the weather and stroll to the pitch even at 5pm (Kickoff time). Even Patrick, who wasn't playing was earlier than most. But it's ok, as the earlier 3pm game was still on-going and STUCK because they started late.
Finally, our game got underway. Playing a familiar 4-5-1, Colin STUCK himself upfront. Weather was holding up. Even the lightning indicator was silent. We were off from the start and pushing hard. Chances came but we couldn't finish. Then the skies opened up. Tonnes of rain came down on us and it made the game very difficult. We weathered the storm as the opponents also failed to make their chances count. Suddenly, lightning STRUCK and it was so close that it blew the referee whistle. Everyone scurried to take shelter. It was half time, 10 minutes before it was due.
The rain let up a bit and we were allowed to continue the 2nd half. By this time, the pitch was already waterlogged. It was so tough to move the ball as it constantly get STUCK in the water. A lot of us couldn't make the ball move and the only way was to keep the ball in the air. It was this play that resulted in the most significant moment for Incepcion. Max played a long ball to the right from the left, to Jerome. He actually first time the ball from the right into the box. Lawrence was there with loads of time. He even had time to position himself, meeting the ball with a loud grunt and precision, he sent it agonizingly inches over the bar. Crowd was stunned. Manager said later that if he didn't connect so properly, it would have been a goal. Supporters said it would have been the goal of the season, had it gone in. There was the crucial chance. We kept on pressing and pushing But we couldn't make it count as the waterlogged pitch and last ditch defending kept us out. Time was running out, suddenly we found ourselves on the backfoot. Octavius got the ball and threw the ball to Clarence, he dwelled on it and squared the ball into no man’s land. Happily, the opponent was there first and slammed it into goal, leaving Octavius wrong footed and no chance. We came unSTUCKed. No more time left and at kickoff from that, Ron launched a Hail Mary but to no avail. Game end and it was a 1-0 defeat. Tough to handle as we really considered ourselves as the better team.
Nevertheless, we win and lose as a team. No one is to be blamed. Let's try again next time and let's make the chances count. A word of advice though, we need to learn how to play with your team-mates, rather than your friends.
I shall not say anything about the Champions League Final.
