So the season finaly was here the Pompey Cup Final at Fareham Town vs WPTs who we had recently pipped to the A league title with a hard thought 1~1 draw only a few weeks prior to this game,so we were going into the game high in confidence from being crowned league champions aswell as a successful tour in Holland where we finished 3rd..But we new WPTs would be gunning for revenge so we had to be fully focued on the job ahead.
We all turned up in high spirit dressed in our tour tops trousers and shoes and after having are photos taken and getting changed for a pre match warm up we went to the changing rooms for a heart felt team talk,then it was time to get out there and let our football do the talking,starting with a normal 4~5~1 with billy in goal ryan,n lewis charlie and ollie linning up from defence kieron max smithy jack and cameron packing the midfield and alfie spearheading are attack,leaving sam, toby, josh and ryan,s on the bench.
We started with so much confidence putting WPTs on the back foot from the whistle,pushing up from the back camping them high in there own half and within the first min we won a corner with alfie swinging in from the left,it fell to smithy who turned to strike at goal only for the keeper to make a smart save,it showed are intent and court WPTs out they didnt know what had hit them,we were like a team thriving in confidence,putting more and more pressure on there midfield and backline leaving the strikers with nothing to do but sit and watch.
In the 7th min smithy had a great chance to make it 1~0 but lent back with his shot putting it just over the bar,then alfie followed suit in the 14th min blusting over from close range after ollies shot was parried by the keeper,but we didnt stop there and in the 15th min with great play down the right between max and cameron the ball found its way out to alfie who put in a cross which kieron rose up high to head over the stranded keeper to get ourselevs 1~0 infront and end a perfect move with the goal we deserved and had be threatening since the start.
Expecting a tough game we were soon to be out of sight having kept WPTs within there own half all game so far the back line cleared any danger they were solid,we did lose out on quiet a few headers in the middle of the field but it was are simple one two touch football that set us both apart,and within 4mins we had more or less put the game to bed,with the center three in midfield of jack cameron and smithy working so hard to win the midfield and the pace of kieron and max down the wings and with the constant movement and hard work upfront by alfie we went 2~0 ahead in the 20th min lewis flouted in a free kick which feel to smithy on the edge of the box with clear sight of goal he had a shot at goal which court the keeper out,making a mistake and letting it slip under his body,then just a min later cameron made it 3~0 after ollie pushed the team up from the back playing in kieron who swung in a cross picking out cameron whos first touch was brilliant settling himself up to strike past the helpless keeper to send the boys and crowd into dreamland within just the 21st min,it didnt stop there and was soon 4~0 in the 24th min,again great play down the right between the three amigos alfie,max and cameron they won a free kick which cameron whipped in finding jack who rose highest to head home.
We then made two changes in the 25th min replacing smithy with toby in center midfield and sam replacing charlie at the back,finaly going into the break an incredable 4~0 ahead,we couldnt of dreamed for the super start we had,but the pure quality of our performnce credited the score line and it could of easily been 5 or 6 other than a couple of good saves and missed chances.
We had to keep our cool at half time and not let it get to us as getting to cocky or over confident could become are downfall,we new we had to continue the pressure keep the ball moving and not stop the comitment and hard work as we new WPTs would come out fighting with nothing to lose and an early goal would give them confidence they could find a way back and unfortunaly thats what happened with just 2mins of the restart a cross come shot lopped over the stranded billys head and bounced into the top corner to make it 4~1 and give WPTs a glimmer of hope .
But that didnt put us off the job we set out to do and with the WPTs fans and players still celebrating the goal we took it into our own hands to again kill off any come back and within mins made it 5~1,jack played a threw ball through the center of the field and with there defender and keeper failing to take control kieron got on the end of it toe poking the ball past both on rushing keeper and defender,it just rolled and bobble so slowly but to the joy of the supporters and team it found its way into the bottom corner and made it 5~1 with just 35mins gone.
The game started to become a little more even with us letting WPTs have alot more of the ball but we still limited them to any other real goal scoring chances,leaving billy with pretty much a quiet game,although he was on the ball any time he was called apon but had the outsatanding hard work of his defence keeping WPTs out of sight of goal.Lewis,alfie kieron all had chances to grab a 6th but due to some last ditch defending and saves from the keeper it wasnt to be,we however continued to play the best football saving our best performce of the season til the last and most crusual game of the season,a massive pitch yet it suited are passing style of play and in the 45th min we replaced alfie with ryan,s and cameron with josh then in the 50th min charlie and smithy came back on for ollie and toby but with just 5 mins to go it looked to be ending on a sour note a bad rash challenge on max left him rolling in agony twisting his ankle so we had to replace him with cameron,but luckely it was not as bad as first though and with time ticking out alfie replaced kieron both changes coming in the 55th min.
The final whistle went and brought to a close to a brilliant and successful season the cheers went up and after shacking hands of the WPTS players and managers the celebrating began it was an awsome performance from the lads each and everyone had an outstanding game fighting hard for each other and showed what great team spirit and hard work can get you and the score line didnt flatter us it was deserved we out thought out played and out shone a very good WPTs team.
So the 2010~2011 season ends with both the league and cup titles in the bag for the third season running,thats not by luck or fluke its down to the hard work dedication comitment team work and spirit of the lads,am so proud of them and i couldnt ask for more than they have given.
Man of the match from the portsmouth league went to max wilson and our own man of the match sponsered by tony dagastino went to jack barker they like everyone had fultless games so well done to them well done to you all :) up the hawks and here is to a succsesful summer winning tournements and just having fun as a team and look forward to more succsess in the 2011~2012 season.
