Man of the Match : Kodie Turvey and Josh Murray
Clenchwarton claimed the League Cup title after an entertaining game at the Wisbech Town Ground, which saw 2 hattricks from the strikers.
The first 10 minutes was pretty even stuff, with Clenchwarton taking a while to settle into their game.
The midfield battle was fought with determination and desire by Josh Chilvers, Lewis Jeavons, Max Gill and Kyle Turvey. A special recognition goes to Edward Brown, who led the encounter with grit, composure and a real will to win.
Clenchwarton score first, taking an early advantage on 14 minutes. A lovely through ball from the half way line by Kodie Turvey saw Josh Murray run on to it, rounding the keeper, and finishing off from a narrow angle. 0 - 1
A minute later, and the Oranges double their lead. Kodie Turvey collects a loose ball on the edge of the area, turns and powers his way through two defenders. He unleashes a shot at goal, which the keeper manages to get a hand to, although is unable to prevent it hitting the back of the net. 0 - 2
22 minutes, and Alex Havers takes the ball from inside his own half and drives forward. From 30 yards out, he smashes the ball towards goal. The keeper makes an extremely good save to deny Alex a place on the scoresheet. Corner to Clenchwarton. Josh Murray takes a short corner to Kodie Turvey. Josh runs around Kodie and collects the ball back, before slotting the ball into the bottom left. 0 - 3
The defensive team of Alex Havers, Robbie Rose, James Winner, Ryan Pell and goalkeeper Brad Palmer stayed focused, stifling out most attacks Wisbech threw at them.
Despite this, Wisbech have their best attack of the half on 38 minutes. They break down the right and produce a wonderful cross in to the Clenchwarton goal area. However, nobody is on hand to connect with it, and the chance goes begging.
Half Time : 0 - 3
Clenchwarton start the second half with an early goal on 43 minutes. Kodie Turvey slides the ball through for Josh Murray. The goalie beats him to the ball and the move looks over. However, the goalie fumbles and Josh Murray quickly pounces onto the loose ball and tucks it away for his hattrick. 0 - 4
45 minutes, Josh Murray crosses the ball in from the right to Kodie Turvey. Kodie takes a touch and then strikes at goal. The keeper stops the shot, only to see it rebound back to Kodie who makes no mistake with the second attempt. 0 - 5
64 minutes, a goal mouth scramble sees Lewis Jeavons strike at goal. It rebounds to Josh Murray who then lays the ball off to Kodie Turvey who smashes it home for his hattrick, making it 0 - 6.
Wisbech Acorns claim a couple of late consolation goals on 71 and 85 minutes, although by this time the game was already won.
Final score : 2 - 6
Both sets of players were a real credit to their clubs, producing a great game of football for the large number of spectators.
The captain of the winning team, Alex Havers, collected the U15 Mid Norfolk Youth League Cup on behalf of his team.
A shout out goes to Karl Brown, Jordan Turner and Luke Reed who all played significant parts in helping Clenchwarton reach the final.
