Rover made the long journey out to Wickhambrook to face their recent divisional Cup Final opponents in League 2 action.

With Rovers' injury list growing on a daily basis, the Whites were down to the bare bones for the very tricky fixture that lay before them.

After a stern talking to by manager Paul Jeavons before the match in an attempt to get to the root of Rovers awful form this year, it was the Whites who, for once, began the brighter of the 2 sides.

Rovers did not have to wait long to make the breakthrough when an inswinging corner from Jamie Maxwell was headed away by the 'brook defence. The ball found Mitchell Jerram unmarked in the box, and the young midfielder smashed the ball home from 12 yards out to score his first ever goal for the club.

Rovers continued to look dangerous after going ahead, playing some nice football, with David Clarke at the heart of the Rovers' midfield pulling most of the strings.

Despite being the better side it was the hosts who scored next when the ball was slotted past Scottt Glacken from close range, after a great counter attack.

The game opened up after the equaliser, as both sides went looking to take a firm hold of the match. During this period both sides came close to getting their noses in front as they both showed great commitment in a game which really meant little to both sides, as the season draws to its natural conclusion.

The best goal of the game came just after the half hour mark, when a lovely through ball from skipper Justin McKenzie was fabulously curled past the 'brook keeper from 25 yards by John Ensinger who put Rovers 2-1 up and in the process also scored his first goal for the club.

Unfortunatley for the Whites, they were unable to hold onto their lead and just before half time the home side again drew level to send the 2 sides into the break at 2-2.

Pleased with his sides performance so far, boss Paul Jeavons sent his side out for the second half, asking for more of the same from his troops as they went looking for a rare victory against their hosts.

Rovers seemed a little tired and heavy legged after the break, as they struggled to pick up the pace and match their opponents.

Unsurprisngly, with 'brook very much on top in the half, Rovers found themselves behind in the game for the first time mid way through the second period, when the ball was tapped home on the Rovers' goalline, after a desperate goalmouth scramble. Despite the goal looking very much offside, the assistants' flag remained down and the goal was allowed to stand.

Rovers never really looked liked getting back into the game after going behind as the home side continued to pose the greater threat.

Despite their intense pressure in the later part of the game, the home side were unable to increase their lead and the game ended with 'brook once again coming out on top.

The defeat continues Rovers' terrible league form in 2012 which has seen them fail to win in 7 of their last 9 League 2 fixtures. A season which promised so much for Rovers, has seen them go from title contenders, at the half way point of the season, to mid table obscurity, as the disapointing campaign draws near to an end.
