With 3 wins on the bounce, Rovers went into Saturday's League 2 fixture against Ram Meadow Res FC, full of confidence and looking to keep their good start to the season going.
Rovers made 2 changes from last week's side with Ed Jacobs returning between the sticks. Justin McKenzie came into the heart of defence in place of injured Geoff Green. With boss, Paul Jeavons absent, it was Green who picked up the reigns for the afternoon.
After a couple of shakey starts, Rovers set up in their usual 3-5-2 formation although were instructed to be a little more defensive minded than they had been of late to, hopefully, not find themselves falling behind early in the game, whilst at the same time seeing what their opponents had to offer.
With the 2 sides having identical records so far this season, Rovers got the tight, cagey affair they were expecting, resulting in a first half of very few chances for both sides although the hosts did have the greater share of possession.
The half sparked into life minutes before the end where a shell shocked Rovers suddenly found themsleves 2 goals down. Firstly Justin McKenzie was adjudged to have fouled inside the Rover's area. No mistake was made with the resulting spot kick to put the home side ahead.
That lead was doubled minutes later when a mix up at the back from Rovers resulted in a simple tap in for the Ram striker who nipped in between defender and goalkeeper to score.
Geoff Green then had to tear up his 2nd half plans and reshuffle things around, hoping that Rovers could get themselves back into a match that had very quickly got away from them.
A much more attacking Rovers started the 2nd half with much more threat than they had posed in the opening 45 minutes and were nearly rewarded for their more ambitious outlook very early on, creating a couple of good opportunites which were unfortunately not taken.
10 minutes into the half they did get themselves back into the contest when they were awarded a penalty for an infringement in the home side's area. Tim Hodge stepped up to half the defecit for Rovers.
Annoyingly Rovers then found themselves 2 goals behind again when they were guilty of nodding off at a corner kick. The ball was smashed in low and hard from the kick and somehow flew aross their area without any Rovers player reacting to it leaving the home side a simple tap in from 6 yards out.
In fairness to Rovers they didn't let this latest setback knock their belief or spirit as the got on with the task of finding another way back into the match straight away.
It was beginning to feel that it wasn't going to be their day though as they went on to waste a couple of guilt edged opportunities, mainly thanks to some great keeping and last minute defending.
Rovers went on to dominate the last 25 minutes off the match as they threw all they had at their hosts. A great finish from sub Harry Bell reduced the defecit to just 1 before fellow sub Chris Roberts scored a great equaliser to set up a grandstand finish.
With the home side on the floor, Rovers continued to pour forward in the last 10 minutes of the match but were denied what would have been a fantastic win for them, thanks to 2 amazing saves by the Ram keeper.
The draw left Rovers feeling over the moon at getting a point after twice being 2 goals behind in the match but frustrated at the same time that their dominance of the 2nd half didn't result in them finding one more goal to complete their fine comeback.
Rovers now switch their attention back to the Suffolk Primary Cup next weekend where they face Mildenhall United FC, away, in round 2 of the competition.
