Rovers were once again in league action last weekend, when they faced 3rd placed club, Barons 1985 FC, for an away fixture at the Heath.
With skipper Justin McKenzie missing because of work committments and Martin Coverdale also away, Manager Paul Jeavons was forced into making 2 changes from the side that beat Black Boy FC a week ago. Rob Green came into the heart of Rovers' defence and Lyndian O'Brien returned to midfield.
Sporting their new kit, the Whites began the game well and created several good opportunities to score which were, unfortunately, not taken.
As the first half progressed, the home side came more and more into the match and created a couple of good chances themselves as well as having a succession of corners but like their visitors, they were unable to make any of their possession count.
The frustrating half came to an end with the sides level. At the break Jeavons told his side that they needed to take their chances when they presented themselves if they wanted to claim all 3 points and that they must not let their concentration slip if they were going to beat a dangerous Barons side who had been scoring for fun so far this season.
Despite starting the 2nd half well, it was the home side who broke the deadlock 10 minutes in, when a great bit of skill just outside the Rovers' area, saw the ball lashed home from 20 yards, giving Scott Glacken in the visitors goal, no chance.
The goal seemed to knock Rovers' confidence as they struggled to get their game going after falling behind but the game was turned 10 minutes later when the Whites were given a way back into the game on a plate. A poor clearance from the Baron's keeper was easily intercepted by Rovers' frontman, Lee Glacken who had the easy task of knocking the ball into the unguarded net to draw the visitors level.
Rovers' then took the lead 5 minutes later when Timothy Hodge slotted home from close range after a nice Rovers' move to put the Whites ahead for the first time in the match.
With their noses in front, Rovers' upped the effort throughout the whole side, as they went looking to kill the game off and claim the points. They were made to work hard for the win though as the home side piled on the pressure late on but were unable to break down their visitors, despite seeing plenty of the ball in the final 10 minutes.
Rovers were delighted to come through the tie with all 3 points against a Barons side who, no doubt, will have a big say in the league 2 title race come the end of the season.
The win sees Rovers extend their unbeaten start to the season to 6 matches and with Elephant & Castle not playing, Rovers move one point clear at the top of League 2.
The whites now have a couple of weeks break from league action as they begin their cup campaigns, starting with a Suffolk Cup tie at home to Glemsford & Cavendish United Reserves next Saturday, at the Heath.
