Rovers travelled to Beck Row to meet league leaders, Mildenhall United FC, desperate to put last week's disappointing performance and result against Bacton, firmly behind them.
The Blues welcomed back Timothy Hodge and Timothy Jaggard, into both full back positions and 4th choice keeper, Geoff Green, returned to the side after several weeks out injured, deputising for the missing trio of, Wayne Pottle, Dave Clarke and Jason Holmes.
Manager Paul Winstone, was looking for a positive reaction from his side, after they threw 2 points away 7 days earlier but not even he could have predicted just how positive a reaction he would get as Rover's well and truely got their promotion push back on track.
The match began tentatively, as both sides looked to see what the other had to offer but the pattern of the game was soon evident to see as the visitors grew in confidence and took the game by the scruff of the neck. After creating a couple of half chances, Rovers deservedly took the lead on 20 minutes, when a free kick from wide left of the Mildenhall half, was nodded into the back of the net by inspirational midfielder, Jamie Feltner. After the goal, the half continued in the same vein, as the Blues looked to extend their advantage, and they managed to turn their dominance into a 2-0 lead, 15 minutes later, when another set piece was headed past the Mildenhall keeper, by striker Tiernan Boland.
At the other end of the pitch, the visitors defense were in complete control, limiting the Mildenhall front line to hopeful balls over the top and long range efforts from outside the box, all of which rarely troubled Green, in the Rover's goal.
After the break, the Blues looked to continue their dominance of the game although they did prepare themselves for the expected onslaught as Mildenhall surely had to throw caution to the wind, if they were going to get themselves back into the game. That expected onslaught never materialised however, as Rovers continued to play some of their best football of the season, making the league leaders look very ordinary indeed. The visitors continued to look far more dangerous going forward than their hosts, and made the game safe on the hour mark, after a mistake by the Mildenhall keeper, saw Micky Cross' tame effort, squirm through his legs and into the empty net.
Mildenhall did change things around after the goal, as they tried to salvage something from the game but Rover's comittment and confidence just continued to grow as the game went on, and again they were able to cope easily with anything that Mildenhall managed to throw at them.
The rout was completed with 20 minutes to go, as man of the match, Alistair Clark, finished off a fine Rover's move, in which he played a pivitol role, to score the best goal of the afternoon, slotting past the Mildenhall keeper to secure a magnificent 4-0 win for the Blues.
The result sees Rovers leapfrog Mildenhall, to sit proudly on top of the table for the first time this season.
Manager Paul Winstone, was obviously delighted with the result and display, hailing it 'easily Rovers best performance of the season', a game which will surely fill the Blues full of confidence as they look to push on and try to secure the club's first ever promotion.
