A completely different performance from Boreham this time round with a well deserved and comprehensive win to make up the earlier blip. One change was made from the previous game with Worthington taking a place on the bench due to a back problem. Powell switched to centre back, Charter to right back and Goodchild came in to his familiar centre midfield role. From the off, Boreham were hungry and playing with a much higher tempo. The rain had started to come down giving the pitch an extra touch of slickness and it appeared this was suiting Boreham. The opening goal came when Long hit a decent shot from the edge of the box only for the rebound to fall to Cowcher to prod home from close range. 1-0 to Boreham! A second goal soon followed when a bizarre incident in the box where the Sandon left back kicked out at Cowcher to leave the ref with no option but to award the pen. Smith stepped up and slotted home to double Boreham’s advantage. This soon became 3-0 when a great cross from the right from Walsh was met with a fierce header in the box from Rush, again the keeper could only parry to Cowcher who snuck home his second and Boreham’s third. The fourth and final goal of the half and indeed game was the pick of the bunch. A nice pass out of the defence found Cowcher whose ‘deft’ touch laid on Long to race through. With still plenty to do, Long skipped past a challenge before calmly finishing well from just inside the box. 4-0 to Boreham and the game surely all wrapped up now as the whistle blew for ht. Fieldson again was brought on, this time Rush making way. Walsh joined Gooders in the middle with Fieldson taking the place wide right. No real goalmouth action to report on in the second half, just the moment of madness from Powell. Firstly Powell was shown a yellow card for a late tackle... nothing wrong with that, but just minutes later when disagreeing with a referring decision, Powell hurled a tirade of abuse towards the accomplished official and was shown his marching orders for a second bookable offence. So Boreham had to play out the last 15 minutes with 10 men but were able to keep their clean sheet and even sent on youngster Baines for a 5 minute run up top as he replaced the tireless Long. Great win and fully deserved. Just 7 more games to go now, with a trip to St. Margarets up next... Promotion still an outside chance if Boreham can produce some decent form for the season run in.
