Following last week’s postponement, Boreham’s Essex Junior Trophy 2nd Round tie with CT 66 was moved to this week and with nowhere near as much rain in the days leading up to this fixture, the game got the go ahead. With Boreham’s injury list seemingly growing by the week it was pretty much a bare eleven again with Fleet and Starling being available from the bench. The eleven that started looked strong but three of those eleven were carrying slight knocks/injuries which were Stammers, Ince and Cowcher. The eleven that started were made up of McGlynn in goal, a back four of Parsons, New signing Worthington, Stammers and Powell. The midfield comprised of Carter, Goodchild, Rush and Smith, leaving the crocked pair of Ince and Cowcher up top.
It was clear almost from the start that Boreham would struggle in this game, with several keys players missing and the three already mentioned carrying knocks, Boreham found it tough to get into to any rhythm. Too many players had off days and the CT 66 ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Most of the action came in the first half. A 15 minute spell saw CT 66 bag all three of their goals. Firstly, Magsy parried a long range shot only for the podgy young winger to lift in the rebound from close range. CT 66’s goal machine then got on the score sheet soon after when he dispossessed Stammers just inside the Boreham half and run clear on goal to squeeze his effort under the advancing Magsy. The third and final goal of the game was a bit of a scramble which Boreham failed to clear. The ball eventually going in from close range. Boreham failed to create any real opportunities in the first half, perhaps a mistimed effort by Smith and a header over the bar from close range from Carter the closest Boreham came.
No goals and no real action of note in the second half. Boreham pressed for a goal back but never really troubled the CT 66 keeper and the game fizzled out to a 3-0 victory for the visitors. A few tasty challenges coming in during the final quarter of the game at least gave the crowd (of about 8 people) something to cheer about! Fleet also replaced Ince with around 15 minutes to go for a first Boreham cap in about five years.
Next week sees Boreham entertain St. Margarets in their first league game since the end of September. Boreham remain in one cup this season – the Dave Strachan KO cup, the 3rd round of which takes place on Nov 24th. Until then some much needed points are needed from the two home games in between if Boreham are to mount a serious challenge for the Division 2 title this season.
