Boreham came into this game full of confidence and a strong team to pick from again. Charter was welcomed back into his familiar right back position with Cowcher reverting back to a striker role and the rest of the team unchanged from the victory a fortnight ago.
The game did not start well for the home side as there were quickly a goal down. It turned out to be the CT centre forwards first of four on the day. Boreham did hit back quite soon after with Rush playing a neat ball to Cowcher in the box, whose touch and finish was uted very well.
Two more goals followed for the visitors before half time, one of which the normally solid McGlynn in goal would have hoped to have dealt better as a cross come shot looped over him and into the net. Boreham 3-1 down and much improvement needed.
Unchanged for the second half, Boreham continued to struggle against their perhaps aging but more experienced opponents. 3-1 soon became 4-1. A change was made with Dale introduced to replace Powell at the back. A well taken free kick made the score 5-1.
Boreham made their final two substitutions with De Vito and Charter making way for Bigland and a season debut for Carter. The formation was shuffled around and Boreham did compete quite well for the final quarter thanks largely to the impact Carter made.
With Dale now upfront causing the defence problems with his pace, Carter also proves to be a livewire down the right hand wing. It was these two who combined to create Boreham’s second goal. Dale shot from the edge of the box, which the CT keeper could only parry and Carter raced onto the rebound to slide the ball home from 6 yards out. A well deserved goal for MOM Carter.
CT added one more goal and the game finished 6-2 to the men from Canvey. It was a disappointing result and performance from a Boreham side who had started the season brightly. If any consolation can be taken from the game, CT 66 have started the season incredibly well winning all five of their games thus far and will no doubt be up there challenging for the league honours come the end of the season... It looks like they have been plonked straight in the wrong division much like 2011/12 league winners Debden were last time round!
On to next week, Boreham travel to Division 3 outfit Stock United in the first round of the Essex Junior Trophy. A much improved performance will be required.
