Flitch Utd visited the Rec for this league encounter hoping to avenge Boreham’s 3-0 Strachan Cup win last month. Encouraging team news for Boreham, just Stammers, McGlynn and Ed Dosser the notable absentees. It meant a 14 strong team with Powell, Ince and new signing Joe Wardmaking up the bench. Adam Dale took the gloves, with the familiar back four of Parsons, Charter, Simpson and Worthington. Across the middle was Jay Dale, Goodchild, Rush and Smith, leaving Cowcher and Tom Dosser up front.
The pitch was just about playable, although the fixture had been in doubt in the days leading up to the match. But with games likely to pile up at the end of the season, Boreham were grateful of getting the game to go ahead.
Unfortunately, pretty much from the off, Boreham were second best. The visitors raced into an early lead, before doubling their advantage mid way through the half. Boreham carved out a couple of half chances but were unable to get on the sheet. 0-2 as the half time whistle blew.
Unchanged for the second half, Boreham came out looking to stage an unlikely comeback, but the chances of this soon vanished as more good finishing from the pacey Flitch winger meant his side soon found themselves 0-4 up. Changes were made as Ince and Powell replaced Charter and Parsons as Boreham switched to a 3-5-2.
Flitch got their 5th soon after before Boreham did eventually pull one back. A Smith free kick was glanced home by the head of Tom Dosser to finally get the home side on the board. The final change saw debutant Ward replace Worthington but with little chance to get involved in the game it was Flitch who wrapped up proceedings with their 6th and final goal shortly before full time.
The ref blew the whistle bringing to an end a very bad day at the office for Boreham and a day to forget. Their heaviest defeat of the season now means successive league defeats which will no doubt dent their title aspirations. Things can only get better next week as Boreham visit Old Chelmsfordians in a must win league encounter.
