Away league match played on 22 January 2012.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

It was Super Sunday, a top of the table weekend where all the contenders for the title would take to the field - Arsenal v Man Utd, Man City v Spurs and Sutton Utd v Burntwood Dragons.

The meeting of these two teams have always delivered an intriguing and enticing affair with no love lost between them. If it wasn't the biggest crowd it was certainly the noisest as the boys took to the pitch along with an icy wind for company. The Sutton boys lined up with Jacob the cat in goal, Tom at the back, Kai anchoring the midfield with playmaker Zac in the middle, supported on the wings by Alex and Will and Nesta the lone striker upfont. The game kicked off in furious fashion, full of passion and commitment. The pitch was probably the biggest in the league, long and wide, but there didn't seem much space out there as both sets of teams eagerly closed each other down. It was pretty much even but it was Burntwood who had the first strike making Jacob produce a fantastic 'tip over the bar' save from a fee kick. Burntwood had met their match in this game as Sutton were edging it for me with Kai Woods again a power of strength producing crunching tackles where ever he pounced. It was Sutton who tended to try and get the ball down and pass the ball, producing the better football. It was a tight game which you would expect from a top of the table clash. 0-0 at half-time but it was far from a bore draw.

The second half commenced with again the same commitment. Sutton were valiant and incredibly brave, having to incur some heavy crunching tackles which the referee failed to see but Sutton were no push overs and won the lion share of things. It seemed a moment of magic would be the only thing to break the deadlock. It almost arrived when Mitch picked up the ball midway in the oppositions half and let fly with a long range shot. The keeper was stranded as it clipped the top of the bar, it would of been a contender for goal of the season had it gone in. Sutton continued to play with Zac and Mitch trying their luck from long range.  A few half chances came to Sutton but Burntwood were a dangerous team and in the dying minutes nearly snatched it. A deep cross came in with their striker just needed to tap it home, but thankfully he completely fluffed his chance. 0-0 full time.

Sutton were brilliant, every player should be very proud of their performance and more than matched the top of the table team.

MOM: Kai Woods - at the heart of everything.
