Away league match played on 06 November 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

After a 2 week break the Sutton boys gathered to meet Colron for the first time this season.

The game set off at a frantic pace with both teams working hard to close each other down quickly, creating little time and space on the ball. Along with the slippery surface it was proving difficult for the players to get hold of the ball and get many passes going. After an even start, Colron looked to settle the quicker and started to threaten. Tom Brookes held the defence together well with some no-nonsense defending. Zak and Kai were busy in midfield nullifying the threat and trying to drag Sutton forward. But Colron were a well organised outfit and had the upper hand as they started to push Sutton back. Chances were few and far between but 10 mins in came the games first clear opportunity and Colron took it. Sutton were caught on the break,  with their defence stretched a Colron midfielder found a rare bit of space and vision floated the ball into the box on to the unmarked Colron’s no.10 head who clinically directed his header down into the bottom corner of the net, 1-0.

Sutton continued to battle with most of the action being fought out in the middle of the park. But there was no holding back Colron who continued to press and close Sutton down. That pressure soon paid off. From within a crowded penalty area a Colron player was deemed to have been pushed and without any hesitation the referee pointed to the spot, penalty. Jacob stood big and strong but the ball was drilled  low and hard into the bottom corner, 2-0. Soon after the half-time whistle blew, Sutton were down but not out of this one.

The second half started like the first, combative, fast and committed. Sutton continued to battle, trying to push themselves further up the pitch. Just as Sutton were beginning to establish themselves in the second half Colron snatched a third. On the break Colron flooded forward, a midfielder unleashed a thunderous shot which Jacob got down and palmed away brilliantly. But like all good centre forwards Colron’s no. 10 picked up the rebound and tapped in home, 3-0. It looked to be game over but to Suttons credit they never dropped their heads and continued to battle away. Sutton probably had the edge in the second half especially towards the latter stages and deservedly pulled a goal back. It was the goal of the game, a goal Lionel Messi would have cherished. The ball got cleverly worked back to Zak who picked the ball up wide on the right and drilled a thunderous low shot towards the busy goalmouth. As the ball missiled along Will Hussey popped up at the back post and with an amazing back heel flick, volleyed the ball from close range into the net. It was cleverly constructed and deftly finished from the free scoring midfielder. The game soon after came to an end.

It was a hard fought game with plenty of effort and commitment, it just wasn’t Suttons day.

Man of the Match went to Jacob. This popular charismatic keeper frustrated Colron many times with some fine shot stopping saves.
