It was a battle between the bottom two and a chance for a much improved Seamless side to seek retribution for a shambolic defeat earlier in the season.
Seamless set out again with the 3 5 2 formation that has solidified their performances in the second half of the campaign and the message was clear: Contain and don't concede an early goal.
The practice however, was that they conceded the early goal after just 3 minutes as the Yacht's number 6 weaved through the defence before scuffing a shot in and the near post. At the start of the season, Seamless would have let this get to them, however this time around, they came back fighting and were unlucky not to get an early goal of their own, with a couple of efforts going narrowly wide.
The yacht continued to press for a second however the Seamless back line held firm and quick counters from the midfield area saw the game open up and led to the first free kick in a dangerous area. A mistake from a Yacht defender gave away an indirect free kick on the edge of the area and a piece of quick thinking from Amy saw him backheel the ball to Zabel who curled one in to the bottom corner.
This sparked a scene of celebration, however pretty soon after this, the Yacht had restored the lead with a long ball over the top being tucked away. Seamless continued to battle back and a barrage of attacks produced two majestic strikes from Amy to swing the game back in Seamless' favour.
After the team won a corner, Amy spotted an unmanned back post and opted to shoot directly from the corner rather than cross and the ball nestled sweetly in the far corner.
Following more attacks and a poor free kick, Seamless won another free kick out wide and Amy again spotted the gap and placed the free kick perfectly over the keepers head from 25 yards.
Seamless saw out the rest of the half with minimal incidents and the second half saw them make a change, as Gow picked up a knock and McBride (cough) entered the fray. The Yacht started the half well and Seamless were forced to defend before Rosamund effectively sealed the game on the hour mark. Richards released a long ball which was flicked on via Amy's head to leave Rosamund one on one with the keeper to slot home into the bottom corner.
The Yacht continued to press for a goal to get them back into the game and Richards made a string of decent saves, one to his bottom right hand corner and a brilliant double save. The first save was from close range and looked to be spinning into the back of the net, however he recovered to claw the ball behind for a corner. From the resulting corner, The Yacht striker handled the ball into the back of the net earning himself a booking.
The Yacht were fortunate to still have eleven men on the pitch as their captain jumped into a challenge, which may have seen red on any other day and a horrendous knee high challenge from behind toward the end of the match left Amy in a heap.
It came late in the season, but the final whistle saw Seamless earn their first competitive victory and they can now look forward to their final game and try to carry the momentum forward.
