The 2nd last game of the season was played on a sunny morning but the strong wind took the edge of the temperature and made the waft of the bacon butties keep coming over and made us all hungry.
It was the 1st game that Jack has missed in 5 seasons but hopefully the rest this week will mean he is fit for St johns next week. George "safe hands Skinner" took the gloves and kept us entertained throughout the game.
From the 1st whistle it was one way traffic with Connor scoring the opener on 7 with a tap in from a John corner. Ed got 4 in the 1st half with his best being his 2nd when he controlled a ball in from John spun and volleyed it into the net giving the keeper no chance. Jake got in on the goal action after being set up by Ed and Rossi got 2 and should have had at least 2 more. As well as the 8 goals we had another 16 shots on goal and when Rickinghall did manage to beat the excellent defence George dealt with it in his own style. The defence done well this week as they have done all season by getting the tackles in and playing the ball out of trouble. The Rickinghall keeper also made a few good saves and if we had taken our chances we could have been in the double figures. Half Time sax 8 - 0 Rickinghall.
2nd half - Connor was back on replacing John and inside the 1st minutes he put in a great ball for Ed's 5th of the game. Ed went on to get another 3 to take his total to 8 for the day and 14 scored against Rickinghall this season and he could have had a few more if it was not for post, bar or missing the easy ones. Zach got a goal attacking the far post from a Rossi cross and Rossi got his hat trick after Sam made an impressive run from the back to set him up and this was the 150th league goal of the season. The boys at the back had an impressive game giving the Rickinghall boys no chance of getting through and pushing forward when they could. John thought he had scored but it somehow stayed out and we had another 17 shots on goal in this 2nd half. The boys played some excellent controlled possession football and kept their shape the whole way through the game.
Well done to Rickinghall who kept going until the end in difficult circumstances and we wish them well next season. Sax will have to work harder next week against St Johns but if we play to the best of our ability we should be able to keep our winning streak in the league.
Well done to all the players this week for playing the way you did and to score 14 in a game is something that won't happen too often, and for a player to score 14 in a season against 1 team is pretty special too, Rickinghall must hate the sight of Ed.
Well done boys.
