Coventry Amateurs 0 - 3Quinton Football Club
In a must win game for The Q's after a poor turn out the week before, they travelled away to Coventry Amateurs whom they had already beaten 2-0 this season in the reverse fixture.
Quinton decided to go all out against a team which showed very little footballing ability earlier in the season and started with an attacking 3-5-2 formation. Quinton attacked, attacked and then attacked some more but unfortunately for the Q's Coventry Amateurs only seemed to have one good player and that player just happened to be the goalkeeper who kept Quinton out time after time. Quinton continued to press time after time but still they could not break the deadlock finding the opposition goalkeeper in a rich vein of form, but there is only so much one man can do and soon Quinton managed to find that goal which they deserved with Tom Drinkwater putting the ball in the back of the net for his first of the season the assist coming from Mike Pearson. The only other notables other then Quinton squandering chance after chance was a rare counter attack from the home team first of all drawing Andrew Nicholls into a fine reactive save before the ball found its way back to a Cov Ams player forcing Richard Butler to retreat to his goal line and head the ball away to save the Q's from a embarrassing moment.
In the second half Quinton continued to play the attacking football forcing Cov Ams to defend for the majority of the second half. The more Quinton pressed the more the frustration grew still finding the home teams keeper in fine form, but soon the reward was there with Mark Carter grabbing the second for the travelling team heading in a Mike Pearson corner. The story of the second half continued with Quinton applying all the pressure only ever having to retreat for a quick counter attack which never materialised into anything. With the game seeming settled Quinton went back to a 4-4-2 formation and made some subs to give fresh legs the chance to run at the home team. With Stefan Pitcher being fresh on the pitch and his lightning pace he soon began to draw fouls and this soon led to him being fouled inside the box earning the Q's a penalty which was cooly placed away by Dave Carter for his second goal/penalty in two games.
Next week Quinton face Inkberrow who sit two points beneath them in the table with a game in hand, If Quinton win this game they will find themselves being right back in with a chance of claiming the Division 2 title.
