Myton battle back to earn much deserved point

Myton Jaguar scored an injury time equaliser to come back from a two goal deficit, however it felt more like two points dropped at the lane on Sunday. The late show ensured John Ison's unbeaten record remained in tact going into next week's Stockingford cup second round clash with Premier League outfit Maudslay FC.

Heavy rain overnight made conditions quite tricky in the early stages of the game with little action in either goalmouth. However, the game burst into life on 10 minutes when Myton's keeper Ady Etherson was called into action, producing a 'save for the cameras' after a long range strike from Millpool's marauding centre half. That was a sign of things to come as only minutes later the deadlock was broken. With seemingly little danger to the home side, a sumptious through ball by Ian Turley, like a hot knife through butter, allowed the away side to nip in and open the scoring with shot in off the far post.

Myton Jaguar continued to play the football that has served them well over recent years and created several opportunites for the front men of Clay and Monington, however it wasn't their day as chances and half chances slipped away. It was only the home side that were interested in playing football mind as Twenty Millpool seemed intent on putting and leaving the foot in on numerous occasions. A stronger referee on the day would have dealt with such play however Myton had to dig in and deal with the situations in their own way. A battling end to the first half left Myton unlucky to be trailing at the interval however they certainly came out fighting after the break.

More of an onslaught on the away goal saw Jamie Found smash a cross bar and Ben Clay have a clear penalty turned down as Myton began to take control of the game. However the wind was taken from their sails shortly afterwards as some poor marking off a corner allowed Millpool to double the advantage. New manager John Ison rang the changes, replacing Ian Turley with front man Sean Crean following an extensive warm up routine. The big man made an instant mark on the game curling in from the edge of the box with his first touch, setting up a rousing finale.

More rough stuff from the away team only served to motivate Myton further and defender Adam Whitefield completed the comeback in injury time with a far post header from a well flighted cross by Sean Monington.

After the game Adam Whitefield exclaimed "I rose like a salmon and stung like a bee". Not many in the dressing room agreed with him.

The much coveted man-of-the-match award was gifted to keeper Ady Etherson, who quickly called home to tell his missus the good news.

Next week sees the first of 3 consecutive cup matches where Myton square off against the Maudslay. Manager John Ison said that the team will be 'on the lash' if they defeat the Premier one side, however he was coy on whether or not free beer will be on offer again.
