Match Report, Mexoc v Wood Street10/09/2011
Saturday morning, Jonny Iniesta woke up with a mix of fear and excitement, ‘we have been scoring and leaking goals, first home game, wonder if it will be a goal fest’ he wondered, even in his wildest dreams he never could have imagined what was to come.
After arriving at the home ground premiership standard changing rooms like premiership footballers (wash bag clutched under one arm, all that was missing was the huge head phones) Mexoc started the first half playing premier ship football. After a frantic start, Mexoc started their passing game off, Thursdays on the astro were starting to pay off. All of Mexoc’s players wanted the ball and Wood street didn’t know what hit them. Wood streets centre mid (Richard O Brian) even resorted to throwing himself on the floor and begging the ref for free kicks. The ref (the sherminator) could see through the bald mans antics. Even with the majority of the possession, Mexoc couldn’t find the back of net and were bemused to still be drawing at half time. Everyone had played well, especially Jon Williams in the centre of the park, who had been just immense, how this guy never got a professional contract with a top top team is unbelievable, the mind boggles. Fitz (playing in his Jim Jams) had also been excellent. Claiming corners and distributing the ball well, Mexoc’s season is looking brighter already. At half time, the gaffer praised everyone’s efforts but means f’’k all if we concede in the second half.
With the wind in our favour, we turned to rat sh’t, we started to let the shower of bell ends play. After a long ball over the top, Wood streets forward sliced his shot which spun over the advancing Fitz. Mexoc were behind, but are used to it, our heads didn’t drop and we finished the game strongly, we could have even had a share of the points if Smithy had anticipated the sublime header of Danny Williams towards the far post.
All in all, some positives to be taken from the game, we are becoming hard to beat, which is already an improvement on last season. After getting one of the nets down, I overhead Frosty saying, ‘hey Smith, fancy having a few practice shots from halfway?’
‘don’t need the practice Frost’ was Smiths reply
