Old Holts Match Report

The scene was set on a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon, With the majority of the team hangover free after swapping there Fridays night out for a night in attempting to become the new Tony Hart in this weeks draw a player challenge.

The team arrived at 2pm minus George who is on a one man mission to pick up as many late fines as possible and emulate the great Smith, the changing rooms were half the size of Faulkners van and the pitch playable to say the least which was doubling up as a photo shoot for an ongoing wedding.

The Gaffer started with the 4-5-1 formation, having just arrived starting with George Guns in sticks with a back four of McIntosh, Faulkner, Monty and Regan. Castaway Dave keeping the right mid position and Mike Ribbins Robbo taking the left wing. OShea fresh from his morning internet Caprice date holding the midfield together along with Jon Williams. Frasers game changing performance from last week gave him the start in the well sought after “hole” position with Pazza taking the sole forward position, this leaving Frost, Smith and Hudson on the bench.

The game started in the new Mexoc style as previous games with a bombardment of pressure but no real shots of any note, this making shooting practice down at the training pitch looking more and more likely. Mexoc took control of the half with the opposition springing a few rare counter attacks keeping Mexoc off guard with there attacking 4-2-4 formation. Mexoc played the ball around keeping possession with Pazza, Robbo and Frazer all going close. OShea also had an effort going for power blazing the ball over into the nettles, One straight from the “Jon Williams book of shooting!”

Mexoc piled on the pressure looking more and more deadly from set pieces, a few corners coming in with Monty and McIntosh both going close. The opening came in the 38th minute with Frazer keeping up his run of goals and assists becoming the provider once again as he switched play knocking the ball over to Robbo who’s excellent strike beat the keeper firing in to the back post. Mexoc piled on the pressure for the last 10 of the half with a booking for an Old Holts player showing there frustration.

The second half started the same as the first with the team fired up looking to add to there goal tally, with the added pressure of 176 worldwide twitter fans now following the club the game was on. A few more chances… and misses came along until Mexoc doubled the lead, Frazer hitting an in swinging corner which centre back Monty rose like a salmon to head home and take his personal total to 2 goals in 2 games. The game continued on with the introduction of Frosty for the hard working (and shirt sweaty) Castaway Dave.

Mexoc carried on attacking with Frosty and Faulkner linking up well on several occasions, with 20 minutes to go a double substitution saw the introduction of Hudson and Smith for Pazza and OShea. With old Holts seeming to push players forward (or out of position) this allowed Mexoc to create chance after chance. McIntosh and Ribbins Robbo linking up well creating several more chances for Mexoc. Hudson had the ball in the net only to be deemed a yard offside (controversial).

Minutes later the game changed with the PenaltyGate Scandal when Regan gave away a penalty by knocking the ball out of play, both teams seemed to be confused at what was happening with even the ref admitting is wasn’t a penalty, even the Old Holts players were lining up to take a corner. Sepp Blatter refused to comment on the matter further. George decided to attempt to faze out the opposition by standing strong and tensing the guns however the plan failed as the striker planted the ball in the net.

Mexoc (again) created chance after chance after chance. Robbo roasting the right back and firing a ball in for Hudson to pass to the keeper from a yard out when it was easier to score, Smith going close with a header and Frazer being sent through on a one on one and having more time on his hands than Charles Bronson planting the ball straight at the keeper.

Old holts launched players forward in the hope of sneaking an undeserved equaliser however the referees whistle brought the game to the end. Probably one of the most one sided one goal victories in recent history.

Next up a home clash against Collegiate Old Boys followed by the first team night out of the season where Mexoc will be looking to add to there recent victories.
