With a chance of going top of the table, Classics came across a West Sutton Celtic team who themselves were looking to claim top spot. Classics with most of their defence missing still had enough about them to be able to take the game to West Sutton Celtic, even with players playing out of position.
Celtic had the lion share of the first 20 mins of the game, which was capped off, by a well-taken team goal, but from that point on Classics started to put their foot on the pedal. The main problem with the team today was regardless of the amount of pressure we had, we did not have the intelligence to be able to turn their defence so they could be facing their own goal. Our strengths is passing the ball, but you can pass the ball all day and it will mean nothing if you do not penetrate in the last third.
Chances from McCalla and Calvert which both hit the woodwork and a blatant penalty decision going against us kept the first half score at 1-0 to Celtic. The team instruction for the second half was keep up the pressure and turn their defence at every opportunity. Did we do that, I do not believe so; even though pressure was applied, I do not believe that pressure had any conviction as if we really believed we could win this game.
Celtic hit us again on the break to make it 2-0; even then, the game was still there for the taking. Chance after chance went begging and as a team if we could shoot we would had taken this game by six goals plus.
Earl Francis scored to give us a lifeline and with Classics pressing to draw the game level, Celtic hit us again on the break to make it 3-1.
The league is still there for the taking and as they say, in football, “you can’t win them all” but I do not give a monkeys what they say in football, I believe we can them all and I want the people around me to believe the same way. We can all talk it but now at the business end of the season we have to show it. Are we winners? Are we mentally strong? Can you make a difference? These questions I will see if players can answer the questions!!!
