A convincing and assured victory against last season’s Surrey Cup winners Warlingham FC. Classics literally had control of the game for the 1st 80 min of the game. The team passed and moved well in patches with John and Dalton demonstrating excellent understanding of the game. John with his never say die attitude and Dalton with his cool, calm personality seem to be making a very good defensive partnership. Tim and Fitz give excellent balance and composure to a defensive unit that is becoming comfortable within its self.
The first goal was an excellent team move with Tim crossing in from the far right for Shola to score with a very good header, why we don’t use the flanks more to cross in quality balls is beyond me, we are good enough to do it and this goal demonstrated how good we are when we do stretch teams to cross the ball in.
The second goal was a similar move with some lovely passing which released Ray to use his pace to get behind their defender to place a cross come shot which was excellently followed up by Milla to make it 2-0.
At half time leading 2-0, we were well aware how things can easily change as we demonstrated in our recent London Cup victory, coming from 0-2 to win 3-2.
The third goal was always on the card with Shola scoring his second of the day from a Glenroy Assist. After a few substitutions, Classics lost a little of their discipline which allowed Warlingham the opportunity to get back in the game. Fair dues, Warlingham battled to the end and if they put away some of their chances it could had been a very different game, but this same reason is why we must be more clinical even though we average three goals a game. What we must start concentrating on is keeping clean sheets. As a team we will always score goals and with our confidence always rising, this is the time when we must start working even harder to achieve our goals.
Man of Match:
Dalton Grant
Showed excellent composure in defence and made the game very simple when he had possession of the ball.
