After playing Mayfair in the London Cup the previous week, this was always going to be a difficult game to play as playing the same team twice in consecutive weeks will always bring up a few questions that went answered the previous weeks.
The game started in an even fashion with both teams giving as good as they got but Classics passing and movement was not as sharp as previous weeks.
Mayfair looked strong with Ian hunting and battling every ball that was coming our direction, but to be fair our defence did a very good job in containing him.
With chances few and far between, a slight reshuffle in the line up led to our opening goal, with Glenroy McCalla putting the oppositions defence under pressure, Ray Mohammed picked up the ball evaded two challenges and unleashed a twenty yarder to the keepers right side.
Now Classics were starting to show there dominance with good possession and concise passing which was tearing Mayfairs defence at will which lead to our second goal scored by Mark Calvert from a very acute angle.
After a stern but constructive half time conversation, the order was, “Put the game to bed” and that’s exactly what Classics did in the second half.
When we play football the way we do it is a joy to watch with each player feeling comfortable on the ball and able to express their individual talents.
With Dalton coming on in the second half, what better way to stake a claim for a shirt than scoring a 25 yarder?? Over the last couple of weeks, Lambeth Classics have certainly demonstrated that they have some fire works in our boots as the caliber of goals scored would all be contestant for goal of the season.
I am convinced the players have had a secret bet on who can score from the furthest or who can score the most spectacular goal!!
At this point it was a case of how many we were going to score as if we put away a majority of our chances then we will have had to have a cricket ref to take over with a boxing ref to state “enough is enough, TKO”
The players were basically lining up to score with further goals from Glenroy McCalla, (Acute angle drive and a delightful lob) and Ray Mohammed ( A concise team move with Ray deciding if he should wait to Xmas to put the ball in the net)
Some will say 6 – 0 is a fair result, but for me no disrespect to Mayfair, if you are dominating a game to that extent, aim for double figures!!!
AT present Lambeth Classics are looking in good shape and are looking forward to our Surrey Cup game against Croydon Postal.
