Kirton Town got back to playing a game of football this week, as last week’s game was called off due to standing water on the pitch, the team was nearly unchanged from the away win at old leake three weeks ago, Declan Sands was away, and Kyle bates had a knock, so in come Carl Louth as a sub and returning after his transfer back to the club Ashley Davis.
The pitch was muddy and very wet ,and was only just playable ,Kirton had the best chance and with only 10 mins played Reece West was put through to the right of the goal ,but as the keeper came out he put his shot just wide of the far post ,most of the possession for wyberton was in the midfield, with some strong tackles going in , but Kirton always looked dangerous when they ran at the Wyberton back four ,Wyberton had to make a early change when a defender had to go off after a clattering tackle, and not long after Kirton had to bring Carl Louth on for Lewis Dunworth who aggravated a knee injury. Dean Fisher was the next to go close for Kirton ,when he was through on goal but his attempted lob was easily caught by the away keeper, then not long after Kirton had the best chance to score ,when Marc Neall found some room in the box only to see his shot saved by the keeper the ball rebounded back to him , but instead of shooting again squared the ball for Reece west to shoot towards goal the keeper saved the first shot ,and the rebound come back to him and his second effort looked to be going in , before somehow the away keeper dived and put that shot out for a corner. The Kirton keeper didn’t have a lot to do at the other end, one shot to save, and a couple of heart stopping moment, when he lost his footing a couple of times in the mud at crosses, the Kirton defence weren’t really troubled in the first half Kurt, Callum, Martin, and Carl dealt with most things Wyberton tried, the ref blew the whistle for half time with the score at 0-0.
The second half started and Jamie Hall in the Kirton goal was called on immidiently,a Wyberton forward broke through on goal after 5 mins of the re start and was one on one with the keeper , but his shot was well saved by Jamie but that was definitely a warning, Wyberton were having the better play now down right and had quite a few good runs , they thankfully came to nothing .When as in the first half every time Kirton looked like breaking through ,the Wyberton linesman was a bit quick putting his flag up for offside, in the first half Kirton scored two goals but they were ruled out for offside too, Richard Ford was like a rock in midfield throwing himself at everything and drawing free kicks at his leisure ,Kurt West was on the receiving end of one bad tackle which resulted in a booking , and it was lucky later on that Jonny Butler didn’t receive one for Wyberton with a nasty tackle on Reece West ,.Kirton still pressed and another goal was ruled out for, I think a possible push in the box from a corner, there was a bit of argy bargee before hand , and as the corner came over , there was a alleged push on a player and as the ball was scrambled into the net it was dissalowed,Wyberton were still getting plenty of joy down the wing , but just couldn’t beat the Kirton back four when it matterd,Ashley Davis made his appearance late in the second half coming on for Tom Owens who had a good game out on the wing , but at times was starved of the ball to do anything with it. The game looked to be ending in a stalemate .Kirton had a couple of more chances Marc Neall and James Hardy had worked there socks off in midfield, saying that every Kirton player had a good match. Then with 2 mins remaining Kirton got a corner, James Hardy floated the corner over and Callum McDonald headed the ball back across goal from the far post and there was Martin Durrant to head the ball into the net and give Kirton a deserved lead. This shook Wyberton into action and after a charge at the Kirton back four ,the ball broke for them on the left, a rash tackle by a Kirton defender gave them a opportunity to cross the ball , and as it was crossed 3 wyberton players were un marked in the box and one of them headed the ball back across goal away from the Kirton keeper, and into the net it was 2 minutes later from Kirton scoring , and they had equalised in the 90 min,as Kirton took the centre the referee blew for full time the game ended 1-1.You deserved more lads ,but we can’t fault your effort on a heavy pitch, well done all , keep the results coming, and let’s get a run going till the end of the season !!!!
