This was the second week running that Kirton Town played Mareham United, and the second week running Kirton ran out 4-1 victors, and for the second week running Rares Demeter was man of the match, most notably for a outstanding solo goal midway through the second half.Kirton had to make a few changes from the week before bringing in Richard Borrill in defence, with a injury to the returning Reece west in warm up (hamstring),two players that were un-illegible with not been signed on in time ,and Alex Cammack was drafted into goal as the usual keeper was away
Kirton started of the brighter of the two teams, and scored nearly on their first attack, which resulted in Ashley Davis unleashing a screamer from outside the area into the visitors goal after 9 mins.Kirton had chances to extend their lead ,and mareham also had one chance to equalise ,but it was Kirton who scored again 15 mins before half time, when after a goalmouth scramble Rares Demeter poked the ball into a unguarded goal.Decland sands and Dean Fisher kept chipping away at the Mareham goal but the first half ended with Kirton only two goals up. The other two noticeable incident of the first half was a nasty collision of heads involving Kirtons Lewis Dunworth and a Mareham forward after 5 mins resulting in Lewis needing attention to a head wound and a big dab of Vaseline so he was able to continue. The other incident was a unlucky disallowed goal for Kyle Bates as he headed the ball onto his hand and into the goal, but the referee disallowed it for handball which was a bit harsh.
Second half started and Kirton started at a quicker pace Richard Ford was again a rock in midfield, sweeping up everything Mareham threw at Kirton and Marc Neal carrying on with his mazy runs through the midfield, Mareham had one or two half chances, but Kirtons stand in goalkeeper covered his area very well. After 55 mins we were treated to the goal of the game ,from the player of the match Rares Demeter the young 16 yr old picked the ball up on the left wing just inside of Marehams half he ran down the line beat a player cut inside beat 3 more players before unleashing a peach of a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the Mareham goal 3-0 to Kirton town.Decland Sands had a couple of chances to increase the score , but narrowly put a header and a shot wide and over, but on the 75 min he got his reward and Kirtons 4 ,with his persistence and determination he ran the ball into the box and after seeing his first effort saved got a lucky bounce of the goalkeeper and duly despatched the ball into the open net to give Kirton a uncatchable 4-0 lead.Mareham did get a consolation goal in the 89 min when a long threw ball saw the Mareham forward riffle a low shot beyond the Kirton town keeper. Soon after the ref blew his whistle for full time and a deserved cup win for Kirton, who now have a home tie against Wyberton Reserves in the second round of the Fishtoft Cup............This was a good all round team performance just need to be a bit quicker moving the ball around but on the whole well done KIRTON TOWN
