The Roundel FC Vs Hemlington Social Club FC North Riding County Cup
At Hemlington Recreation Centre. Attendance: 9 and a Pigeon.
The game begun in winter sunshine but with plenty of juice in the ground, perfect conditions for a cup tie.
Hemlington begun fairly well and got themselves on the score sheet early on, after 7 minutes in to be exact. A long diagonal ball from the left by Joe McKenna was picked up By Richie May and crossed in from the right, Dan Caney chested this down for Matty Nelson to hit a looping volley over the Roundel goalkeeper and into the net. ! – 0 Hemlington.
Hemlington seemed to take their foot off the gas and it didn’t take too long for the Roundel to get things level. A throw in on the Roundel right was not cleared and fell to the Roundel striker who fired home off crossbar. 1 – 1.
Hemlington took the warning on board and pressed on searching for a second goal, with a few chances including 1 which forced the Roundel keeper to tip onto the bar and clear.
On 22 minutes however Roundel got a second goal of their own. A free kick from around 20 yards out was well saved by Scott Wright in goal but fell to the feet of a Roundel player who fired the rebound home. 2 – 1 Roundel.
Hemlington kept pushing and twice found the fee of Lee Carr but he could only find the post from 1 of these chances and shot wide with the other. This saw us through to half time.
Hemlington clearly had a bit of the hairdryer treatment as they came out and found a goal almost straight away. A cross from Dan Caney found the feet of Matty Nelson around 18 yards out, who deftly fired home for his and his teams second goal. 2 – 2.
Plenty of play in the middle of the park saw yellow cards being dished out and Dan Caney was substituted for Sean Jenney. It was Hemlington who found a third goal. A corner from Richie May in 67th minute, found Joe McKenna, around 6 yards out and he shot home for 3 – 2 Hemlington.
A double substitution saw Neil McLoughlin and Dan Farnaby come on for Joe McKenna and Matty Nelson. A few naughty challenges saw a few stoppages, but 1 stoppage caught Richie May unaware and he stayed onside before sprinting off down the right hand line only for play to be called back.
On 90 minutes a fourth goal from Neil McLoughlin put the result beyond doubt. Some good play by Ashley Trodden down the right allowed him to play the ball to Neil McLoughlin who run through 1 on 1 with the Roundel keeper before slotting the ball home. 4 – 2 Hemlington.
Another good game from Lewi Mondal saw him pip Ashley Trodden and Mark Roulston to Man of the Match.
