The first game of the season for Hemlington Social Club FC could'nt of came quick enough after a long pre season. Hemlington came racing out the traps and in minutes Matty Nelson , Lee Carr and Dan Caney went close but in the 9th minute a surging run from centre back Alex Brown got cut short just outside Centurion Box on the right as he got took down with a late tackle , he then took the free kick a 20 yard strike bent it into bottom left hand corner 1-0 Hemo . Paul Jenkins made it 2-0 to Hemlington headering in from Richard May corner on the 27th minute. Hemlington had to make an early change when a tackle from behind looked to role the ankle of striker Lee Carr and resulted in been replaced by Liam Bedford 35th minute. During the half time break Hemlington again had to make a subsitution with Alex Brown claiming a calf ankle and hamstring strains , we are yet to clarify which one , he was replaced by young centre back James Alderson . 2nd half centurion pulled one back attacking down the left beating right back Matty Devine for pace and pulling a cross on the floor for the on coming attacker to strike but was superbly saved by goal keeper Craig Cook only for the rebound to fall to a un marked forward to tap into an empty net, 1-2 47th minute. Instantly Hemlington made it 3-1 on the 49th minute as Liam Bedford played the ball down the left for striker Dan Caney to collect wide left and dribbling beating 2 men driving into the box and cutting the ball back towards a on coming Matty Nelson finishing beating the keeper from just inside the box and hitting the inside of the netting at the far post . 1-3 Hemlington Shortly after Centurion countered again down the left and lobbed Hemlington keeper Craig Cook from 20 yards out making it 3-2 52nd minute. Hemlington again going close to scoring with Liam Bedford , Callum Roulston and Paul Jenkins almost widening the score line. But when Callum Roulston played the ball back to over confident hemlington keeper Craig Cook tried to dribble past Centurion forward getting tackled and Centurion rolled the ball into an empty net 3-3 65th minute. This seemed to have hit Hemlington hard and 5 minutes later Centurion won possession in hemlington half and beating the keeper from edge of the box with a top right hand corner shot. 4-3 70th minute. Before the final whistle Hemlington seemed to get a grip again and took the game to Centurion but all efforts were fruitless as each attack fizzled out. Mentions have to Liam Bedford , Dan Caney and Callum Roulston who never gave up the fight through out but was Matty Devine at right back who stood out the most and took Man Of The Match
