Home cup match played on 23 October 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Match decided by a penalty shootout.

Norreys were in Berks & Bucks Junior Cup action at home against Whitley Athletic, hoping to build on their recent good form.

Brad was making his return to the team in the centre of defence plus there was a home debut for Neil Jones in central midfield.

The game started evenly, with both sides enjoying some early possession but with both defences standing strong.

Chances were few and far between in the first half an hour at which point Norreys were forced into an early change with Rob coming on for Dave who had a problems with his hamstring. A reshuffle at the back saw Wilkesy move to the centre, Matt to left back and Rob in at right back.

Norreys ewre beginning to get on top shortly after the half hour mark, and were finding plenty of joy down both flanks with Ali stretching the Whitley defence with his pace.

On 38 minutes Norreys were rewarded for their efforts when they were awarded a penalty following a handball in the box. Karl took on responbility due to Stott's abscence through injury and calmly slotted home to give Norreys a 1-0 lead which they held on to half time.

Whitley were upping the pressure in the second half and creating some good opportunities but the Norreys defence, particularly Brad's head, were proving difficult to pass.

The Whitley pressure was continuing to mount and they were rewarded with an equaliser on 62 minutes.

Whitley were now looking for a winner and were enjoying most of the possession, athough Norreys were looking threatening on the break with Ali and Luke giving the Whitley defence a hard time.

Both teams were finding it difficult to find a winner and before you knew it the 90 was over and it was into extra time.

Both teams were looking tired, and it was plain to see on the pitch with space opening up at both ends. Norreys created a few chances through a couple of free kicks outside the box but could not find a way passed the Whitley wall, with Whitley also coming close on a number of occasions.

Brad's queen bee sting on the foot seemed to have given him a new lease of life as he began to dominate the aerial battles at the back.

Into the second half of extra time Norreys brought on James for Luke, who following on from last week almost scored with his very first touch with a good hit towards the top right hand corner bringing a good save from the Whitley keeper. Both teams were holding out well and it was no surprise that the game finished 1-1 after extra time.

Now it was down to the lottery of penalties!

Whitley were up first and was Mark 'Bones' Donnelly's time to be a hero.

The penalty was hit well but Bones was equal to it and pulled off a great save to deny Whitley the lead. Matt was up first for Norreys who calmly slotted the ball into the net for a 0-1 Norreys early lead.

Whitley's second was good after sending Bones the wrong way, 1-1. Brad was up next, the queen bee ting coarsing through him..............Norreys 2-1 lead 'class........you never lose it' the words from Brad on his way back to the centre circle. Whitley's third was driven hard straight down the middle but some good reactions from Bones saw it well saved. Karl was up next and was hoping to add to his earlier penalty score, and as in the 38 minute he calmly slotted into the back of the net for a 3-1 Norreys lead. Whitley found the net with their fourth making it 3-2 Norreys which meant debut boy Neil had the pressure of dispatching the Norreys fourth penalty for the win. Norreys need not have worried as Neil sent the keeper the wrong way for a Norreys 4-2 victory on penalties and into the third round draw!!

Managers man of the match was Mark 'Bones' Donnely.

Managers favourite comment on the match, Brad telling his fellow defenders 'see, i told you it was easy at the back'!!
