Norreys were in Lakeside Cup semi-final action away to the Cup namesakes....Lakeside.
This was the first match for a few weeks due to the recent bad weather, although you would find that hard to believe for Norreys as they started as if they had been playing every week!
The strong start by Norreys was rewarded with an early goal by Karl following some interchanges with Ali before curling an effort into the right hand side of the goal leaving the keeper rooted to the spot for a 0-1 lead after 5 minutes.
After the early goal Norreys were in control of the game and were enjoying the majority of the possession and playing the game in the Lakeside half. Good pressing up front was putting the Lakeside defence under pressure and were struggling to keep hold of the ball.
The only thing that was missing was a second goal from Norreys, which finally came following a free kick from Wilkesy into a dangerous area where the ball was met by the Lakeside number 8 who advertantly diverted the ball past his keeper into the back of his onw net for a 0-2 score line on 30 mins.
Lakeside were determined not to let the game get away from them and were getting tougher in the tackle, which was assisting their play to a degree however also led to a few yellow cards being shown by the referee.
Norreys still looked dangerous on the counter attack and but for a good save from the Lakeside keeper pushing Stoney's effort onto the post the score line could have been increased.
The Lakeside pressure did finally pay off after some confusion in the Norreys box led to a goal against the run of play on 38 mins.
Norreys were forced into a change before half time when Matt suffered an injury and was replaced by Niko.
Lakeside were trying to build on this goal but it was Norreys who got the next when Ali headed home from a Wilkesy cross for a 1-3 lead just before the half time interval.
Protests from Lakeside at half time led to sending off for one of the back four who's 'arse displaying' antics did not go down well with the officials!
Norreys started the second half how they finished the first with a break away goal with Ali and Joao combining to cut through the Lakeside defence and it was Ali who slotted home following Joao's pass after only one minute into the second half.
Lakeside were looking despondant and Norreys had a number of good oportunities to increase the score line with Ali, Joao and Neil having efforts at goal.
The Norreys back line were coping well with the Lakeside attacks and were still looking dangerous on the counter. This danger was turned into a Norreys fifth goal when Ali returned the favour from his second goal by playing in Joao who despite scuffing his shot was still able to beat the Lakeside keeper.
All of the following chances were going Norreys way with Lakeside being limited to efforts from range.
Norreys missed a few chances to get a sixth but it finally arrived as a gift from the Lakeside keeper who's clearance ricoched off the right back before trickling past him into the net for a Norreys sixth and the second own goal of the game.
Game finished 1-6 with Ali as managers man of the match.
