CSK Wanderers sensationally confirmed their tenth Premiership title with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Talibanfica. Goals for Alex Ternouth and Shaun Kevern guided the Wanderers to yet more glory.
CSK started in buoyant mood needing just a point for the title. Their passing football meant they dominated possession. Talibanfica's defensive organisation was commendable with tight marking and plenty of men stationed behind the ball. It made for an interesting if not entertaining match. The breakthrough came relatively early when David Jones ran forward and watched on as his shot took a deflection off the fortunate Alex Ternouth and found the net. Talibanfica continued to defend strongly sticking to their game plan hoping to get a chance to break. Steve Winter was more than alert to make saves when called upon. The Wanderers then found the net again when Stuart Savidge progressed down the right and provided the option for Shaun Kevern to exchange passes. Kevern then advanced through on goal and placed the ball past the keeper to double the CSK lead before half time.
The second half was a footballing master class on how to keep a lead. CSK passed the ball around their opponents in a game of keep ball that saw few chances for either side but allowed CSK to maintain their advantage to win the game and subsequently the title. David Jones hit the post after a great pass from Aaron Walsh, but other than that there was little threat to either goal as the game was killed off. 2-0 at the whistle and the CSK fans could celebrate in the knowledge that their side had done it again.
After being cleared of any wrong-doing in regards to the recent betting allegations against him, Steve Winter was delighted to be a title winner once more. However, much of the questionning surrounded the absence of Lewis Turpin in the teamsheet. The rumour mill indicated that Turpin believed Winter to be guilty of the allegations and that he was to testify if the case went to court. Winter was keen to deny that he left the player out for that reason, "There is no truth in that whatsoever. Lewis is totally loyal to me and the club. I decided that we needed an attacking line-up for this game as Talibanfica are very defensive. We played solidly tonight and unlocked them to win the game quite comfortably. So I'm proud of everyone's efforts throughout this whole season." Shaun Kevern spoke with the media after the game and was pleased to have grabbed the goal, "We made history tonight with that win, and it was great to get such a vital goal that helped us win this title. The boys have been great all season and it's so nice to be part of this win." CSK will be hoping to end the league with an 100% record as they await to receipt of the silverware.
