Today's game was another tough one. After last weeks rude awakening in division 1 we faced a send side who we knew little about other than they are another strong side.
The boys started the game tentatively, maybe a hangover of last week, but they soon realised they were more than a match for send. After a midfield battle where no one really created anything we took control and the chances started to come. Harvey had a great strike blocked and after some determined play Lucas forced the goalie into a great save. We then created the first clear cut chance. Harvey sent Harrison clear and he just shaved the post with his shot. The next 5 minutes was a bit end to end with both goalies pulling off several saves. Max's incredible double save, the second bravely diving on the ball, was the best of them all. We then took the lead with a great goal. Lucas and Harvey combined superbly to send Harrison down the wing. After some great skill he cut in and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. As the half wore on we looked like we was going to see the half out but unfortunately we conceded with the last kick of the half. A corner was taken and somehow found its way into the goal.
Again the second half was a close encounter and credit to both teams who played out a very entertaining game. We had the better of the first 10 minutes and created several great chances. Lucas had another shot saved and Harrison just missed with a first time shot. At this point we were well in control and playing some great football. We were then caught on the break and a very lucky finish from send put them 2-1. After their lucky goal we really pushed on and went for the equaliser. We hit the post and had two goalmouth scrambles but the ball just wouldn't go in for us. Along with our superb attacking play our defending was also superb. When send do break Adam, Tyler and Alex kept them out. We kept pushing but it clearly wasn't going to be our day, several blocks , another goal line clearance and two penalties not given later I knew it wasn't going to be our day. we were again caught on the break. A in the last minute we were caught again. A long punt up the pitch was chased down by Tyler and another superb tackle was adjudged to be a foul. Never a Penalty!!!! Max got his fingers to it but it was just to powerful. A 3-1 defeat that could have easily been a 5-1 win.
The boys played excellently but today Lady Luck wasn't with us. Myself and Dave are so impressed with how the boys bounced back from last week and if today is anything to go by they deserve to be playing in this division.
We need the boys to start realising how good they are as a team!
Max. Followed on from last weeks man of the match performance with another outstanding game. Several great saves.
Tyler. Outstanding game. Timing and reading of the game is incredible. Man of the match.
Adam. Another great game. Very strong in defence and superb going forward.
Lucas. Fantastic game. A real attacking threat. His partnership with Harvey in midfield is really growing. Unlucky not to score.
Caleb. Good game. Broke up several attacks with well timed tackles. Worked his socks off.
James. Good game. Several great passes and forced the goalie into a great save with a great shot.
Harvey. Another classy game. Bossed the game with some superb passing. Unlucky not to score.
Alex. Great game. Worked very hard in midfield and defended superbly when asked to play in defence. Some neat skills on the ball.
Harrison. A superb game. Worked their defence with some superb skills and a great work rate. Great goal and unlucky not to get more.
The boys played superbly today. It just wasn't our day. We are so impressed with the boys attitude after last weekend and the boys should keep their chins up and be pleased with their efforts today
