A classic game of two halves this morning saw beacy turn on the style in the second half to record a resounding 5-0 berks and bucks second round cup win.
We started this game well, forcing a corner within the first 30 seconds of the game, which was a sign of things to come in the opening few minutes, a couple more corners where one, fro which a chance fell to the feet of prolific centre back Matt gunnell, who disappointingly fired over from 12 yards. This turned out to be the story of the first half with several chances coming and going, the next half chance came when Rodriguez beat several players and crossed invitingly into the area which took some good defending by the opposition to steer away for a corner. The opposition were growing into the game, on a couple of occasions goalkeeper summers needed to be at his best to deny the opposing striker, the first of which caused controversy as the opposition were looking for a penalty, Summers furious with an attempted dive to con the ref, had to be calmed down by captain gunnell, luckily the ref had not been conned by this piece of cheating and waved away appeals. In between the few dangerous counter attacks, Ryan coker had gone close with a couple of headers from 12 yards out, Piercey then crashed a shot against the crossbar, and at this point a goal didn't look far away. As the half drew to a close, Rich davies picked up a yellow card for what the ref deemed a reckless challenge, again the reaction of the opposition was a disgrace, calling for a straight red from what was a 50/50 challenge. Half time 0-0.
Manager Gunnell made one change, replacing Roberts with Douglas. The second half began with us well on top, although again we were failing to create many clear cut chances. The floodgates finally opened on 58 minutes, douglas skipping around a couple of challenges and from the by line cut the ball back to the on rushing piercey who made no mistake from 8 yards 1-0. With the dead lock broken, it was matter of minutes before Chris summers long kick evaded the opposition defence and feel to the feet of Ryan coker, who finished with ease for his 9th of the season 2-0. At this point the wheels had come of for Wycombe united, arguing amongst themselves they lost all discipline and when they failed to clear a corner, Shaun coker fired home to make it 3-0. Moments later, Sam green became the second beacy into the book for a wild lunge, which in truth could of been a straight red. A forth goal arrived, following a mix up in the opposition defence, the ball ended up at the feet of sub James hall, who took one touch and blasted the ball home from 25 yards out, much to the delight of everyone in the team, who rushed to celebrate with the striker who has had some tough luck in front of goal recently 4-0. The final goal arrived moments later, following some good work from Ryan coker who rolled the ball across goal for Richard davies to slam home from just inside the area, a well deserved goal for his constant work rate and unselfish play over the past few weeks 5-0.
All in all a good performance, a decent clean sheet to take into next weeks game and we are beginning to really click going forward. Really happy with the group as a whole, the team spirit is building nicely, none more so than when almost every player went to Hally when he scored his goal, good to see players enjoying each others success.
Man of the match : Pete Ebberson - at anfield there is a banner that goes up each week for '70% of the earth is covered in water, the rest is covered by Jordan Henderson', this banner could easily have been made for Pete. Terrific performance
