Chinnor Athletic 0
Fresh of the back of 3 consecutive wins we headed into this fixture against 8th placed chinnor hopeful of securing another 3 points in our quest for a top 3 finish. Having played chinnor sides for several years it is always a question of who turns up, on their day they can be a dangerous side, fortunately this was not the case, a side with nothing to play for which showed in some of the oppositions players displays.
Pleasing from our point of view that we could yet again field a strong settled side, it has become apparent over the last few weeks that keeping a solid spine to the side is helping us during this much improved run of form. We went 4-3-3 again with an unchanged back four and midfield three, Rodriquez the only change in the front three coming in for Gray, who was on the bench alongside Wilkinson and Kingston.
We immediately assumed control of the game with the our midfield three winning the early exchanges, shaun coker in particular looked lively, hoping to impress the assorted crowd, a number of which he had invited from his work. Chinnor elected to play a high line which would cause them problems throughout the game coupled with a back four which had no pace and seemingly could not judge the flight of the ball, this was always going to be asking for trouble, 5 minutes in and O’Connor easily out passed the right back and barred down on goal at an angle, unfortunately electing to take one too many touches, and the ball was squirmed away for corner, a warning shot to the opposition you would of thought, yet the persisted with a high line which at times could have been no more than a couple of yards of the half way line. On 8 minutes this risky tactic was punished, Shaun picked the ball up in our half, spotting Ryan on the move, he dinked a perfectly weighted pass into his path, baring in on goal, Ryan rounded the goalie and fired home despite the efforts of the covering defender, a decent finish 1-0. A couple of minutes later we doubled our advantage, having won a corner, Piercey swung in an excellent cross to the back post, Ryan headed goal wards and with the aid of a big deflection go his second of the game 2-0. Some 5 minutes later the game was all over with Ryan having completed a 15 minute hat-rick, having been played in by O’Connor he calmly slotted passed the outrushing goalie from just inside the area 3-0. Totally in control and playing some lovely football the goal of the game wasn’t far away, a lovely move in which 7/8 players touched the ball in a passing move that started in our own area and ended with coker again breaking free before squaring for O’Connor to score a simple tap in, a really good goal 4-0. The pressure continued and on 35 minutes a ball was rolled back into the path of Wingfield who launched a long ball forward which dissected the entire chinnor defence, Ryan coker onto it like a flash and baring down on an overworked goalie, he cleverly lobbed the ball first time over the keepers head, another excellent finish 5-0. As the first half drew to a close, it was clear to see the oppositions interest in the game was all but done, our defence had very little to do other than head clear the odd long ball which was launched forward and deal with one corner which summers caught under no real pressure.
Second half began with the luxury of knowing the game was done and with three subs at our disposal there was a good opportunity to give everyone a run out, Chinnor did start the second half with more intensity and had a couple of early long range attempts which sailed wide. As with many games that our over by half time we struggled to regain our intensity with a lot of players electing to overplay or take too long on the ball causing us to lose possession, that said our lead was increased further when rodriguez skipped past his man on the half way line(that high line again), racing into space he drove in on goal and unselfishly squared to Ryan Coker who had the simple job of tapping home from 6 yards out for his 5th goal of the game 6-0. The normally reliable Douglas had missed a glorious chance just prior to the 6th goal, following good work from O’Connor he fired over from no more than 6 yards out, fair to say a bad miss from a player of his quality. Manager gunnell made a triple change on 60 minutes Ryan, Phil & mike all replaced as we looked to rest a few players ahead of Sundays game. The game was very flat for the last 20 minutes although we did add another goal, Rodriquez again doing well down the left and feeding the ball into the path of Kingston who scored at the second attempt with 10 minutes to go 7-0. Our final chances fell to Shaun who clipped the ball over the bar from 20 yards out and Javi who narrowly missed the target following some excellent work down the left wing. Full time arrived a welcome relief to our opposition and to spectators a like, the second half being a non-event.
A good win, usual things we can be more clinical and must continue to play simple football throughout the game and we would of won by a larger margin. Credit to all though getting the job done early on and playing some nice football at times.
Man of the match – Ryan coker – clinical finishing.
